About the Opportunity

Our Calgary office is looking to add 3 capable and enthusiastic Geomatics Engineering students to our team for a 8-, 12-, or 16-month work term starting in May 2026!

Our goal is for you to come away with an enhanced skill set and real-life experience in a consulting practice that will serve you well in your career as a geomatics engineer. You will be working with our Geomatics team, including Alberta Land Surveyors, and given as much responsibility and freedom as you demonstrate you can handle. In addition to the unmatched learning and project experience you will receive, do you see yourself excited to contribute to:

  • Honing your geomatics engineering skills and developing an understanding of best practices in a practical, real world setting, both in an office and field environment.
  • Applying theory and providing workable solutions related to the implementation of municipal engineering work, including legal survey, land development, and drone technology.
  • Establishing relationships with communities and acting as the client's representative on-site during construction to gather and provide information.
  • Providing accurate and timely input and summarizing technical reports, plans, studies, proposals, and presentations.
  • Working alongside Alberta Land Surveyors with cost estimating, contract preparation and administration, project coordination, subdivision applications, and calculations/quality reviews of a variety of legal survey plans.
  • Proactively and professionally communicating with contractors, co-workers, clients, other consultants, and the public.

 

Timeline

Through this internship, it is our goal that you experience multiple aspects of Geomatics Engineering in a consulting firm. This includes but is not limited to field survey, legal plan reviews, drone data processing, technology research,  legal survey applications, and project coordination. As such, below is a rough timeline that we have used to engage past interns to achieve this goal:

About You

We are looking for students currently enrolled in a geomatics engineering program, program who are in either their 3rd or 4th year of study. An emphasis on land surveying is preferred but not required. Related experience will be beneficial but not required. 

The core skills that will help you succeed here include: 

  • Motivation - You are excited to broaden your expertise and understanding by gaining experience in the following areas: water, stormwater and sewer infrastructure design, road design, drainage infrastructure, preparing grading plans and asset management.
  • Relationships matter - You want to cultivate relationships to deliver results with your team and build a community that celebrates a culture of inclusion and belonging. You can work independently, are a self-starter, and are also a great teammate.
  • Curious – You are eager to learn more, ask questions, and listen deeply. You know being present and listening to people to understand their needs and experiences is integral to being in service of others.
  • Detail-Oriented – You pay close attention to detail and quality control and verify the accuracy of your production work at all stages of a project.
  • Communication – You are a skilled communicator, both verbal and written. Active listening and asking clarifying questions are important, and you know that listening to people to understand their needs and experiences is integral to making a positive impact. 
  • Problem-solving - you enjoy applying theory and conducting research to provide workable solutions related to the implementation of engineering work.
  • You have a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence.
