Major Duties:

  • You will protect naval interests and the public by providing explosives and ordnance safety expertise, policy, oversight and knowledge transfer of the fundamental chemical and physical properties of explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics.
  • You will serve as the Manager for Qualification and Final (Type) Qualification of all Navy and Joint Service Energetic compositions utilized by the DON.
  • You will provide technical leadership and guidance to ensure policies, certification philosophies/methodologies, and requirements are established/maintained for the DON/Department of War (DoW).
  • You will execute budgets and business plans for assigned program areas based upon detailed guidance/procedures and/or recommended best practices.
  • You will identify, develop and implement recommendations/solutions to problems, risks, and potential outcomes to mitigate risks throughout the entire lifecycle of the energetics in munitions and weapon systems.
  • You will ensure reliability and accuracy of problems involving theories, principles, practical concepts, processes, and methods related to professional fields of engineering in chemistry and/or material science of energetics and explosive materials.
  • You will provide authoritative scientific, technical, and professional guidance or advice to senior level managers and engineers concerning unusual or critical problems that often affect the work of or may impact other significant programs.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-02 (GS-11 equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer researching and analyzing system requirements to identify properties of safety and suitability for use in a weapon or ordnance system (e.g., propellants, pyrotechnics, explosives, formulations, test, ordnance, insensitive munitions, assessment, qualification, scale up).
