SALARY: £65,385 - £79,915

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh

HOURS: Full Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

You'll join us in Group Finance Support (GFS), a team of c200 colleagues within the Finance Division, providing centralised support and expertise to the rest of Finance and the Business.

This role is a 12-month fixed term contract, supporting the Commercial Banking (CB) Financial Control team in Group Finance Support responsible for the financial control activity, reconciliation and basis of substantiation of data on a monthly basis.

Day to day you’ll be supporting with the following:

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of professional individuals

  • Lead the month end process ensuring all deadlines are met

  • Collaborating closely with a large number of internal teams including finance business partners, other GFS teams, operational teams, company secretarial and external auditors

  • Taking ownership of control issues or balance sheet breaks, ensuring that these are owned and remediating action plans are in place

  • Collaborating closely with a large number of internal teams including finance business partners, other GFS teams, operational teams, and external auditors

  • Delivery focused and thrives working in a time pressured environment over month end

  • Demonstrate proficient stakeholder management skills and ability to create effective working relationships across multiple Finance teams

  • Actively support and empower junior colleagues to assist in the creation of a successful and engaged team to achieve objectives and deliver above expectations

  • Review and oversight of junior colleagues’ outputs, and timely escalation to appropriate management for issue resolution

  • Proactively challenge processes to support a culture of continuous improvement and a curious mind-set

  • Maintain a robust financial control framework

What you’ll need

  • A qualified accountant, preferably with experience of financial control and reporting and transactions. 

  • Excellent communicator, able to influence and articulate complex issues, building strong diverse working relationships across different parts of the Group.

  • Passion for Financial control and reporting and questioning mindset.

  • A leader with drive, energy and a growth mindset, who leads by example.

  • Strong background of delivery and driving continuous improvement with a focus on automation solutions and driving innovation.

  • Proven ability to build, influence, and maintain effective cross-functional relationships.

  • Able to plan ahead and organises work in a systematic and organised way to ensure that personal, team and functional objectives are achieved

  • Bring a problem-solving approach with the ability to challenge and constructively debate key issues.

  • Works collaboratively with a diverse group of partners, utilising well-developed relationship skills.
