The University of Minnesota Medical School seeks applicants for a one year non-accredited Cardiovascular and Thoracic Transplant and Cardiac Mechanical Device fellowship program beginning summer 2026.
As a premier program in heart failure surgical interventions, there is extensive opportunity for innovative and device related technical and clinical experience. The program will provide trainees a year of advanced training specializing in all aspects of heart failure surgery, heart and lung transplantation and procurement. The focus of the program will be clinical training, with didactic, research, and teaching components as well. The fellow will be involved with procurements using Transmedic cardiac and lung devices as well as Paragonix devices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include 12 months of specialty training in cardiovascular and thoracic transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and quaternary level adult cardiac surgery.

About the Department:
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division is a part of the Department of Surgery and has 10 cardiothoracic surgeons, 4 congenital heart surgeons, and 4 general thoracic surgeons. There are 2 Thoracic Surgery Residency positions per year and it is a three year traditional residency. Our program has extensive training in all aspects of cardiac and thoracic surgery. All residents and most attending surgeons are involved in cardiac and/or pulmonary transplantation. Our mission is to deliver clinical excellence, compassionate patient care, pioneering research, and the education of surgical leaders in cardiothoracic surgery. We have a collaborative team with a deep commitment to education.
Pay and Benefits:
This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through M Physicians. The stipend for this position is $92,592.
