Job Summary: This position is located in the Naval Support Activity, Regional Support Services Program, Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The purpose of this position is to oversee the maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment, supervise assigned staff and assist in the training of personnel in the proper operation and care for equipment. ***JEB LITTLE CREEK MWR EAGLE HAVEN GOLF COURSE*** ***INTERNAL - Position open to existing JEBLC MWR staff only***

Major Duties:

  • This position may perform some or all of the following duties as assigned: Oversees the maintenance and repair of a variety of golf course equipment: gas and diesel engines of various sizes; electrical, hydraulic, brake and drive systems; reel and mower blade sharpening, grinding, adjusting and repair. Field tests to insure proper performance. Reads and understands operator and repair manuals. Troubleshoots equipment, performs major overhauls as required, and recommends best course of action for repair. Develops and implements a strong preventative maintenance program, maintaining associated records. Maintains a fleet of electric golf carts: inspection, preventive maintenance, testing, cleaning and repairing as needed. Troubleshoots equipment, replacing batteries, front end components, brakes, cables, steering mechanisms, repack bearings, grease/lubricate tires, wiring, upholstery and painting. Reads and understands operator and repair manuals. Develops and implements a strong preventative maintenance program, maintaining associated records. Oversees driving range operation to include daily set-up and closure and range pick-up and ball cleaning. Coordinates with tournament director to ensure range is set-up prior to start of scheduled tournament in accordance with instructions. Performs minor repair and maintenance on golf course buildings and shelters as needed. Assists in repairing irrigation pumps and electric motors. · Ensures the workshop is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion. Ensures compliance with all OSHA standards and environmental regulations. Cooperates with Industrial Hygiene, installation Safety and Fire inspectors and advises supervisor of new regulations or hazards. Maintains logs and records, such as jack inspections, as required. Advises staff of new hazards in the workplace or new environmental regulations. Keeps abreast of the proper procedures for handling hazardous materials and hazardous waste and complies with all regulations. Implements and ensures high standards of safety in all areas of responsibility. Assists in the Hazard Communication program by obtaining and organizing MSDS's for all hazardous materials in the shop. Orders and stocks tools, supplies and spare parts, seeks lowest price from. vendors, keeps enough inventory on hand to be efficient but economical, checks in shipments and ensures paperwork is in order. Develops, implements and conducts a training program for employees on proper care, safety and operation of equipment. Oversees employees as they operate equipment to insure that instructions are implemented. Provides additional training on a continual basis. Trains various staff to assist in shop. Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for operating each piece of equipment. Recommends action when equipment abuse is noted. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate must possess: Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and possess documented training in automotive and engine repair. A minimum of three (3) years specialized experience in golf course repair is strongly preferred but may be substituted with the equivalent education, training and related work experience. Must be able to plan work and assign priorities, follow complex repair manuals, diagnose problems and initiate the necessary course of action. Must possess the ability to operate a variety of specialized light and heavy tools necessary for equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to do simple data entry/word processing. Must be able to operate a variety of manual transmission vehicles such as pick-up trucks and 5-ton dump trucks and have the ability to operate a variety of equipment used in the maintenance of fine turf.
