A Glimpse of the Job
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist I, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental health and safety program.
Essential Duties/Tasks
Inspections
Perform inspections at AgriLife Research and Extension Centers to evaluate compliance with general laboratory, shop, fire and life safety, and environmental procedures and practices
Performs airflow assessments of chemical fume hoods and submit associated reports
Captures data on anemometer and record visualization data for each fume hood
Record data in BioRAFT
Reporting
Record information and findings for inspections and fume hoods in BioRAFT to generate reports
Safety Programs
Assists with general safety programs and training at research and extension centers as needed
Assists with writing SOP’s as needed
Training & Development
Conducts training in a specialized area
Participates in training and development opportunities
Emergency Response
Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed
Investigations and Assessments
Performs incident and accident investigations assessments in accordance with the Texas A&M EHS programs under supervisor's and more senior specialist's guidance

Required Education and Experience
Associate degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of health and safety experience or related
Required Licenses and Certifications
Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health, and safety related field
TCFP Inspector certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have computer skills in such areas as spreadsheet, word processing, and relational databases, and be familiar with the use of Microsoft Office and Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

This position is security sensitive
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
