Engineering Manager, Dasher Costs and Compliance

Sunnyvale, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA Full Time

About the Team

The Dasher Costs & Compliance team defines how millions of Dashers earn on DoorDash, directly shaping both Dasher satisfaction and DoorDash’s long-term sustainability. Our mission is to make earnings fair, reliable, and compliant, while enabling the business to thrive responsibly in regulated and emerging markets.

We operate across three core areas:

  • Earnings ML: Building machine learning systems that allocate earnings fairly, optimize Dasher engagement, and balance long-term cost efficiency with platform health.
  • Earnings Tooling: Equipping operators with powerful self-service systems to manage billions of dollars in Dasher pay, simulate pay outcomes, and move from manual adjustments to scalable, automated solutions.
  • Regulatory Market Success: Owning the technical foundation to meet evolving pay-related regulations in high-stakes markets (Seattle, California, NYC, and beyond), ensuring compliance while protecting both Dasher trust and DoorDash’s business.

With a team of backend, frontend and ML engineers, and peer collaboration with senior technical leaders, this team sits at the intersection of data science, compliance, and financial systems. We are redefining how gig workers are paid on a global scale to make DoorDash the most reliable and rewarding way to earn.

About the Role

As the Engineering Manager for Dasher Costs & Compliance, you will lead a highly skilled, cross-functional engineering team. You’ll define and execute the technical strategy for our earnings optimization, compliance, and tooling initiatives, building resilient, scalable systems that directly impact millions of Dashers while ensuring the business stays ahead of regulatory and financial challenges.

This role requires balancing user empathy with business strategy, financial stewardship with innovation, and compliance with technical agility.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Lead the vision, strategy, and execution for the earnings ML, earnings tooling, and regulated markets charter.
  • Build and scale systems that enable fair pay distribution, accurate earnings visibility, and regulatory compliance at global scale.
  • Partner with Product, Legal, Finance, and Operations to design systems that balance Dasher satisfaction, platform reliability, and business health.
  • Scale the team by mentoring internal talent and recruiting top-tier engineers.
  • Deliver systems and models with direct bottom-line and regulatory impact, influencing both DoorDash’s growth and industry-leading reputation.

We’re excited about you because…

  • You’re an owner — proactive, accountable, and impact-driven.
  • You bring technical leadership with strong product sense, balancing long-term vision with pragmatic execution.
  • You have 2+ years of engineering leadership experience managing backend and/or ML teams.
  • You have 7+ years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems, machine learning applications, or financial/regulated platforms.
  • You thrive in ambiguous, high-scale challenges, especially where technology, compliance, and cost optimization intersect.
  • You’re humble, collaborative, and open to feedback while pushing boundaries.
