Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Clinical Development and Chair of the Department of Medicine, the GI & Endo Nurse Coordinator supports patient care, throughput and clinical operations for the divisions of Gastroenterology and Endocrine.

Essential Duties

  • Implements pre-visit planning protocols for GI & Endocrine clinics as well as train medical assistants for chart preparation
  • Work with the Access Center Nursing team to implement red/yellow/green triage matrix
  • Support referral management, by triaging referrals against Schedule Advisor protocols
  • Provide pre-surgery and pre-procedure patient education
  • Route patients to follow up appointments post discharge
  • Manage prescription refills
  • Support authorization team, by responding to peer-to-peer requests
  • Serve as Quality Committee representative for the Department of Medicine
  • Serve as liaison between Howard University Faculty Practice Plan and Howard University Hospital on Surgery/Procedure Reconciliation Committee
  • Represent Department of Medicine on Perioperative Committee
  • Represent Department of Medicine on OR Committee
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

  • Registered RN – Required
  • DC License – Required
  • BSN, MSN or MHSA, MPH or equivalent – Preferred
  • Certified in Surgical Subspecialty-Preferred
  • 2+ years experience in an academic health system - Preferred
  • 3+ years ambulatory nursing experience or 2 years inpatient experience on a med/surg unit- Required

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $90,909 - $100,000
