EMEA Investigations Counsel

The Investigations Counsel will be responsible for managing, overseeing, conducting and providing legal guidance on pending government investigations, and conducting investigations into allegations of violations of HPE's Standards of Business Conduct ("SBC").  He/she will report to the Vice President of Investigations in HPE’s Ethics & Compliance Office (“ECO”) and will be part of a global team managing external and internal investigations throughout the company. He/she acts as legal advisor to assigned internal clients or other company attorneys with respect to matters related to the area of specialty and recommends solutions that help address the client’s objectives and represents the company before industry policy setting organizations, government agencies, and other regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities:

  • Drives the development of legal strategies by providing specialized legal expertise in one or more areas of specialty law.
  • Shares growing expertise within a specific legal concentration with other team members and with clients through both informal and formal training and mentoring.
  • Identifies and resolves complex legal issues requiring in-depth knowledge and judgment within a specialty area.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Vice President of Investigations and to other Hewlett Packard Enterprise partners (including but not limited to country, sub-regional and regional teams, Legal, Internal Audit and IT Security) on SBC investigations, with key functions including but not restricted to data collation and analysis, investigations management, interviewing of witnesses and subjects, and intelligence database and information systems management.
  • Conduct complex internal and external investigations on behalf of HPE's global SBC program and associated internal partners.
  • Establish and promote effective interregional investigation operational cooperation, information sharing and coordination channels. Manage high volume & complex caseloads with little oversight.
  • Draft investigation reports for executive level review and law enforcement engagement throughout the region.
  • Be responsible for delivery on program goals and timelines within the regional SBC program.
  • Maintain and utilize information from available incident reporting, information management systems, and intelligence databases to maintain a detailed and accurate record of investigative activity. Will be required to travel within the region and possibly elsewhere, in pursuit of objectives, sometimes at short notice.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Advanced university degree in law (e.g. JD or LLB); additional advanced degree relevant to the specialty preferred.
  • Possess 6-10 years commercial legal experience at a law firm or in-house.
  • Advanced level of experience in one or more specialty law practice areas acquired through being a leading resource in-house or in similar industry or law firm environment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Self-motivated and able to act independently and responsibly demonstrating sound and ethical judgment.
  • Ability at both a strategic and tactical level, to identify security issues and customize, implement/execute solutions.
  • Provide highly innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Assess and execute on the highest priority issues.
  • Ability to manage complex investigations across a range of security and business functions.
  • Experience in ethics and compliance related investigations in an in-house or law firm environment is preferred.
  • International experience is essential.
  • Fluency both written and spoken in one or more second languages will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds, countries of origin, and at varying levels within the corporate structure.
  • Polished interpersonal skills and excellent research and writing abilities under extremely tight deadlines and competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure in complex situations.
  • Sound, proven judgment is a must.
  • Advanced breadth and depth of practical and academic knowledge within a specific legal concentration, with demonstrated expertise in one or more sub-areas within the specific legal concentration.
  • Strong knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Awareness of the international legal environment for the specific legal concentration.
