Job Summary: The Electrician is assigned to Facilities Management located at the Oklahoma City VA Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Major Duties:

  • Major Duties Include: installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, maintenance and testing of complex electoral systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures and fire alarm systems. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement, type size, gauge, balance, load continuity, and safe operating of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances. The work involves installing, modifying, repairing and maintaining electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Plans and lays out work, tracing hard to locate defects or problems, and completes repairs and installations. Interprets and applies the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factor, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduits, gutters and cable trays. Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD12037A Physical Requirements: The work requires frequently handling heavy materials and parts weighing in excess of 45 pounds. The work also requires pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing for sustained periods of time. Physical effort is often strenuous and is typical of industrial construction trades. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside (heat, cold, under and outside of building). Installations, inspections and repairs are made under dirty, noisy and odorous producing conditions. He/she is frequently exposed to the danger of strains, cuts, bruises, burns, and infections.
