Key responsibilities:
Complete risk assessments through observation of tasks and use of existing templates. Risk assessments may be chemical, biological, ergonomic or task based
Chemical Safety – Knowledge on types and associated hazards - use and storage
Assist with EHS training to different departments and with EHS subject matter
Knowledge of fire safety, evacuation, and site drills
Asist with the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programme and monitor use and supply of PPE
Practices and enforces good safety practices, supports queries, responds to and provides follow up -up to health, safety and environmental issues to site.
Ensures that all Licensing, Permitting or other environmental health & safety requirements are met and ensures non – compliance issues are resolved.
Assists with updating and maintaining EHS records for the facility.
Assists in updating site management with new or changes to regulations and procedures to ensure compliance
Knowledge of hazardous / biological waste and relevant regulation
Assists with regular site walk-down and assessments of site
Assists with inspections, audits and regular fire drills, training etc
Experience with occupational hygiene exposure monitoring
Incidence response and management, investigations and CAPAs
Train and be integral part of Emergency Response Teams
Participate in the Safety Committee and Biosafety Committee
EH&S responsibilities with renovation and construction projects
SOP editing and EHS responsibilities with SOPs
Site Green team and sustainability initiatives
Periodic inspection and testing of emergency equipment, e.g; safety showers
Facilitate and follow-up on actions from various functions and departments in EHS improvement activities, rectifications works and accident/incident investigations, contractor Permit-To-Work systems
Perform EHS inspections of the company operations to ensure compliance, and improvement of EHS improvements
Implement EHS improvement activities arising from Corporate EHS and site leadership directions
Maintain EHS documentations required under the EHS management system e.g. accident/incident records, chemical inventories, licenses and permits, MSDS, etc
Ensure that systems and procedures on site follow Local and National regulatory expectations
Experience and Qualifications:
Education to a Higher Diploma or Bachelors degree or higher level in Environmental Health & safety or related subjects.
Basic knowledge of laboratory and hazardous waste regulations including chemical and biohazard storage and disposal.
The ability to plan, schedule and carry out work for successful project completion.
A positive attitude and ability to work well with others and excellent attention to detail
Be able to communicate effectively and follow detailed written and verbal instruction
