FLSA STATUS: Exempt

COMPENSATION: $100,000 - $125,000 base salary USD and eligible for discretionary annual bonus plan

OUR STORY

Marquee Ventures (“MV”) is a venture capital fund anchored by the owners of the Chicago Cubs and a variety of other sports assets globally. MV invests in seed through Series B opportunities across sports, media and entertainment. These opportunities can be transformational businesses within these verticals, or horizontal platforms that enable new value propositions.  The fund is a trusted partner to portfolio companies globally given its network, expertise, and approach to strategic support.

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE

We are looking for an Associate to join our growing team. We believe it is a unique opportunity that is a great fit for an emerging investor looking to gain more deal experience or for someone with relevant experience that wants to transition into venture capital.

Given the small team dynamics and culture, you must be humble, innately curious, and willing to get involved in a variety of projects as needed. The right candidate will be enthusiastic about building relationships with startups and building financial models. You will work collaboratively with the team to source opportunities, conduct diligence, and manage the portfolio to drive returns for the fund.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Source unique investment opportunities through targeted outreach, participation in industry events, and by leveraging your network.

  • Willing & able to travel up to 20% of the time meeting new companies in various markets.

  • Support the evaluation of potential investments using a mix of qualitative and quantitative inputs including reference calls, market research, financial analysis, and expert interviews.

  • Prepare investment memos and financial models to communicate the opportunities and risks inherent in an investment.

  • Help develop larger, longer-term investment themes and perspectives, creating strategies for investing against identified opportunities.

  • Support select fund admin projects including events and investor updates.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in direct investing, investment banking (tech/media), or at a high-growth tech company.

  • Demonstrated passion for working with early-stage companies. An appreciation for entrepreneurs who want to change the world.

  • Excellent analytical (quant/qual) and communication skills.

  • An emerging network in relevant sectors with a plan to continue to build a personal brand in sports, media, and entertainment.

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
