Position Summary
As the Distinguished Engineer/Fellow for Corporate Payments Technology, you will serve as a senior technical leader, operating at the SVP-level in an individual contributor capacity; reporting directly to WEX’s Chief Technology Officer. You will be responsible for defining the Tech Architecture & Innovation for payment technology. This role demands a hands-on technical expert with a proven ability to accelerate business outcomes by applying deep, multi-decade payments experience to our most challenging systems. You will not only raise the bar for engineering excellence but also act as a crucial technical partner to our commercial and sales teams.
Key Responsibilities
Define Core Architecture: Serve as the final authority on the design and architecture of our most critical Corporate Payments systems, including the Auth Gateway, TAG, Encompass, funding engine, closed loop systems, and infrastructure supporting debit, pre-paid, ACH, and RTP.
This role is required to partner and collaborate effectively with engineering leadership on all aspects
Drive Payments Innovation: Lead the technical strategy around new product development by leveraging your deep expertise in both open loop and closed loop payment ecosystems. Your knowledge of network protocols and industry standards will directly inform and accelerate the creation of new products for the industry at large.

Ensure Engineering Excellence: Set an extremely high technical bar for the organization, driving adoption of best practices in distributed systems, high reliability, and innovation velocity. You are expected to be hands-on in technical design reviews and critical system development.
Business and Sales Partnership: Act as a core technical co-partner in Sales/account engagement with our top payment customers. Translate WEX’s technical capabilities into compelling value propositions that help land and expand big accounts and drive new revenue streams.
Mentor and Elevate Talent: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to our high-potential tech talent and senior engineers across the Corporate Payments domain. Foster a culture of technical rigor, continuous learning, and innovation.
Strategic Leadership: Proactively advise Senior Leadership on emerging payments technology, competitive landscapes, and technical risks/opportunities most relevant to the Corporate Payments and Mobility intersections of the business.
The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
