The Role :
Mastercard Commercial Solutions is looking for an Engineering Director and a Technology leader who will lead engineering teams focused on our core services – someone who combines deep technical experience with great people management skills and can help elevate our teams and our approach to engineering. We are looking for a candidate that has proven experience in coding, architecture leadership, and leading engineers in a fast-paced environment.

We are seeking a results-driven Director to lead and grow our data engineering team. This leader will establish the data vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Commercial Solutions product, aligned to broader enterprise data strategy and platforms. This is a critical leadership role that requires a blend of deep technical expertise, a passion for data-driven innovation, and the ability to mentor and grow a high-performing team.

You will champion the different data architectures (Both OnPrem and Cloud) and the philosophy of data as a product, enabling decentralized ownership and accelerating the delivery of trusted data to our business stakeholders. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define, build, and optimize our data capabilities across data warehousing, analytics, business intelligence, and data science initiatives.


Responsibilities
• Design and Architect: Champion Data-as-a-Product mindset empowering teams to own and manage their data as a shareable, valuable asset. Oversee the entire data lifecycle from ingestion to consumption.
• Manage the current On-Prem Data Systems and drive the adoption of modern, cloud-native data platforms, ensuring the infrastructure is optimized for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Team Building: Build, scale, and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists.
• Culture: Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within the data organization.
• Talent Management: Oversee the hiring, training, and professional development of team members to ensure a strong talent pipeline.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with business stakeholders to deliver trusted, high-quality data that enables effective reporting and self-service analytics using tools like Power BI.
• Senior Leadership: Present data strategy, performance metrics, and business impact to senior leadership to influence and drive data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Experiences
• 15+ years of experience in data engineering or related fields, with at least 4 years in senior leadership roles.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale data platforms on AWS, with a deep understanding of data warehousing, datalakes, and modern data architectures.
• Experience implementing and maintaining Data as a Product mindset.
• Proficiency in OLTP databases, particularly Oracle, and optimized data egress techniques - ETL/ELT design, streaming data architectures, CDC pipelines, and orchestration tools
• Deep expertise in the AWS ecosystem. Hands-on experience with key technologies such as Databricks, Apache Spark, Kafka, NiFi, PowerBI, Splunk etc.
• Knowledge of data security best practices, including encryption, data masking, and role-based access control.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, SQL
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Demonstrated experience building, mentoring, and leading high-performing data teams.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science
