We are seeking a visionary Director of Site Management to spearhead this transformation, overseeing a diverse and dynamic portfolio of major construction projects, environmental programs, and infrastructure enhancements. The Opportunity

Responsibilities

The Director of Site Management is responsible for overseeing all aspects of site management for Genentech's South San Francisco Campus, with a focus on coordinating major construction efforts to support the realization of our Campus Vision Plan (CVP), delivering supporting capital projects, and ensuring compliance with company policies. The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mega-Project Coordination: Creation of the Campus Coordination Council to manage the integration of simultaneous mega-construction projects on the campus. This involves coordinating with internal stakeholders and external architectural, engineering, and general contractor firms to ensure alignment and efficient project delivery.

  • Mega-Project Support: Support all site management needs and site workstreams for simultaneous mega-construction projects on the campus. Lead Project Managers in the execution of site, civil, landscape, and utility projects as necessary to support delivery of these major projects across campus. 

  • Program and Project Oversight: Direct a team of project managers to execute a portfolio of construction and engineering projects ranging in value from $500K to $25M each.

  • Team Leadership: Hire, develop, and lead a staff of project managers. Provide coaching and direction through weekly or bi-monthly one-on-one meetings, assisting with escalated issues and guiding career development.

  • Budget and Portfolio Management: Oversee an annual budget of $20M to $50M+ for a portfolio of 5-15 projects focused on the CVP. Manage project finances, create monthly financial reports, and meet with customer leadership to help prioritize projects to stay on budget targets and meet annual spending goals.

  • Policy and Compliance: Ensure all projects and operations comply with Genentech policies, including completion of specific site training. Maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners to achieve organizational goals.

  • Create and Lead (4) new teams:

    • Master Site Management:

      • Soils management and master grading planning and execution.

      • Plan and build a site trailer complex for all Campus Development project teams.

      • Create a master demolition plan and concrete/material storage strategy.

      • Secure all temporary utilities, including PG&E, to support all construction projects on site.

    • Environmental and Approvals Program:

      • Coordinate and support all projects' permitting and approvals.

      • Maintain AHJ and Genentech compliance.

      • Support creation of the soil management plan.

      • Create and obtain approval for an Asbestos Dust Mitigation Plan.

      • Obtain and maintain compliance with SWPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan).

      • Manage and complete all Phase 1 & 2 Environmental Studies.

      • Manage all subsurface investigations, testing, and compliance.

    • Landscape Program:

      • Lead landscape design and coordination with the Director of Landscape Strategy and Master Landscape design team.

      • Create a new, dedicated program to support all landscape projects across the campus.

      • Create a team of project managers to build and implement 4-7 major landscape projects totaling at least 50 acres.

      • Create a contract tree-growing program to support all projects.

      • Create a landscape soil program to support all projects.

    • Parking and Transportation Logistics:

      • Support the current and future needs of the SSF Campus by creating a comprehensive Parking and Transportation Logistics team.

      • Create and continuously amend a master campus parking strategy to support construction and employee parking.

      • Design and manage all surface parking lots to support parking strategy.

      • Identify and manage all temporary and off-site parking lots.

      • Design and manage all employee pathways through campus and around construction projects.

Who you are

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental), Architecture, or a related field is required. Master’s Preferred.

  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in Engineering, Project Management, Facilities, or Planning is essential.

  • A strong working knowledge of project design, construction, and management is a must.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead a team of project professionals and manage relationships with customers and third-party partners.

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills are crucial for working in a resource-challenged and schedule-sensitive environment.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimum or no supervision.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite is required.

  • Professional certifications in project management (PMI), Six Sigma, LEAN, or Operational Excellence are desirable.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $161,100 - $299,100 USD Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
