The Learning & Skill Development (LSD) organization is crucial in establishing a digital culture and mindset across the Commercial and Medical Group (CMG), ensuring all customers—employees, managers, healthcare providers, and patients—receive timely and relevant information and skills. LSD is transforming CMG into a continuous learning culture by advancing skills management, digital learning, experiential learning, and workflow learning. The team includes learning business partners with deep business acumen, Learning Design Architects focusing on perennial and business transformation areas, and instructional designers and multimedia partners who build best-in-class learning products. LSD scales these products through facilitators, learning technologists, and an analytics function that links skill development to business impact..

Role Overview

We're looking for a Director Product Management to lead our Digital Innovation efforts. This is a role within the Learning & Skill Development (L&SD) organization. The role is crucial in our digital transformation, focusing on reimagining how we leverage technology, AI/Data and digital tools to enhance efficiency, speed, and strategic capabilities for our customers and patients. The role lives at the intersection of People, Process and Technology. 

You will lead a dedicated team to research, define, design and develop innovative solutions and processes, with a specific focus on learning, accelerating adoption of digital tools, and streamlining ways of working across functional groups. You will interface with senior leaders across a matrixed environment.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy & Vision: Define the learning product vision and strategy for new digital learning tools and platforms, leading the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch and iteration to ensure a clear and unified product roadmap.

  • Customer & User Experience: Proactively discover and define opportunities to improve the user experience and increase meaningful engagement by leading interviews, workshops, and observational studies to identify business goals, pain points, and unmet needs.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as the connective tissue between business stakeholders and technical teams, bridging the gap between business needs and technical capabilities through collaboration with UX, Engineering, IT, Marketing, and Operations.

  • Execution, Activation & Measurement: Own the end-to-end user journey, from initial discussions to sustained, meaningful engagement, by leading early-stage validation sprints and designing systems that drive activation through in-product learning, onboarding flows, and experimentation.

  • Commercial & Business Development: Share adoption insights and activation outcomes in ways that influence strategic decisions and strengthen our reputation for innovation, collaborating across teams to ensure learnings are translated into future product roadmaps and commercial opportunities.

Who you are

  • You have a bachelor's degree; a background in Computer Science, Engineering, or a technical/quantitative field is a plus.

  • 7+ years of experience in tech, lean manufacturing, strategy consulting, corporate innovation, product management, product marketing, design research, or a related field.

  • Proven experience leading ideation and innovation processes with a track record of identifying successful new opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience in market research, competitive analysis, and GTM strategy.

  • Proficiency in innovation tools and methodologies, such as design thinking, Lean Startup, and agile frameworks.  And a passion for technology and innovation in the AI-powered physical product space.

  • Experience: Proven experience in product adoption, process engineering or workflow learning, with a strong track record of deployment of impactful features at scale. Demonstrated success in optimizing key parts of the user journey with measurable business impact.

  • Technical & Analytical Skills: A strong analytical foundation and comfort using data to drive decisions, measure success, and inform roadmap prioritization. Deep expertise with A/B testing frameworks, experimentation tools, and data-informed decision-making is a must. Technical fluency and the ability to partner closely with tech teams to deploy high-quality features is required.
     

Preferred

  • Master’s or MBA degree in Business, Engineering, Design, or a related field

  • Experience with sustainable product design is a plus..

This role is based out of the South San Francisco Genentech Campus, however may consider remote flexibility for those outside the San Francisco Bay area.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $158,700/yr to $294,700/yr  .  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
