Our world-class faculty and students work across subject areas to investigate and solve real-world problems.

We are seeking a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). This role provides strategic financial leadership and operational oversight for the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Finance and Chief Business Officer, the Director serves as a key strategic partner to the Dean, Associate Dean of Finance and Chief Business Officer and college leadership, providing financial insight and scenario analysis to shape and guide resource allocation and long-term planning.

The position is also responsible for the strategic and day-to-day oversight of the college’s financial planning, analysis, and budgeting functions. This role also plays a critical role in aligning financial strategy with the college’s academic and research mission aligned with institutional priorities.

The Director leads the development of the college’s multi-year operating and capital budgets, manages forecasting and financial performance analysis, and provides data-driven insights to inform senior leadership decision-making. Serving as a strategic business partner within the Dean’s Office, the Director assesses and advises on the financial implications of key business decisions, strategic initiatives, and long-term goals.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop complex forecasting and financial models to assess financial performance across all areas of unit, including but not limited to: revenue and expenses, restricted accounts, endowment funds, scenario modeling, and other key financial initiatives. Advise the Associate Dean and Dean on strategic priorities for short, medium, and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate the college’s multi-year budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring an accurate and comprehensive consolidation of financials across all departments. Guide and collaborate with departmental business managers and other academic and administrative leaders to align budgets and forecasts with college and institutional priorities, proactively resolving discrepancies and financial issues.
  • Drive a disciplined approach to financial reviews, planning, forecasts and analysis that supports both near-term operational needs and long-term strategic goals. Partner with central Finance and university leadership in the formulation, monitoring, and reporting of the college and overall university’s financial results.
  • Communicate financial results, trends, and implications clearly and effectively to senior leadershiptranslating complex financial data into actionable insights that inform decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Assess process gaps, identify needs, and implement improvements in efficiency and execution.
  • Implement and enhance financial and information technology systems to support strategic and financial planning, budgeting, financial reporting, and executive decision-making. Partner with colleagues across the college to manage expectations, allocate resources, and establish priorities. Support digital transformation initiatives within the finance function, championing adoption of next-generation analytics, AI-driven forecasting, and integrated planning/budgeting platforms.
  • Plan and develop long and short-term strategies for continuous improvement, including process redesign as well as design of information systems and innovative financial solutions. Champion change, foster digital literacy, and pilot new tools or platforms as part of broader financial modernization.
  • Ensure all financial planning and analysis adheres to robust data governance, privacy, and ethical AI standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 7-10 years relevant work experience required
  • 5-7 years of management experience
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility by building partnerships across the University to provide valuable decision support which promotes both the University’s and the Dietrich College’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Experience developing, mentoring, and retaining a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Consistent record in conducting and leading complex, data-driven financial planning, and analysis with ability to drive and implement standard methodologies.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel abilities including advanced financial modeling, data management, advanced formulas and functions, and data visualization. Experience with data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau is preferred.
  • Experience with cloud-based ERPs and scenario planning software preferred.
  • Possess strong business and financial competence with intentional approach of continuous improvement
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
