The Stores Performance, Insights, Data and Analytics team rapidly develops and deploys insights to improve existing processes and enable new capabilities that drive productivity, create a great guest and team member experience.  We are looking for exceptional people who are proactive, creative, independent, innovative, practical, and comfortable with ambiguity. The Stores Analytics team leverages business experience, thought leadership, and analytical acumen to elevate problem solving for Stores.  The Stores Analytics team provides an ideal opportunity to work within a highly collaborative team managing complex solutions.  A role on our team means being central to the innovation within Target Stores.  The Director of Stores Performance, Insights, Data and Analytics will lead and develop a team of, but not limited to, analysts and product managers who work across product, engineering, operations, and strategy teams to deliver insights, analysis and reporting to support Target stores.  You’ll be working in a dynamic and challenging environment where new technologies are deployed constantly, and processes are evolving quickly as these operations mature.

The Stores Performance, Insights, Data and Analytics team creates metrics, models, and data products to sustainably educate to recommend and enable our business partners data and insights informed decisions.  We help develop the technology that personalizes the guest experience, from business operations to relevant guest experience. As a Director of Stores Performance, Insights, Data and Analytics you’ll take the lead as you:  

  • Work with Stores and Stores Operations partners to define a problem, find the requisite data and propose solutions based on data analysis 
  • Lead and develop a team of, but not limited to, analysts and product professionals providing strategic guidance on projects which build Target’s future leaders. Understand and anticipate problems and move to solve them quickly 
  • Create and automate reporting and insights at scale that informs and influences decisions 
  • Democratize data and insights as you strive to deliver self-service tools to your partners and enable them to make better decisions quicker 
  • Provide thought leadership in how we measure a business area through the application of insights, analysis and derivation of reporting functionality 
  • Incorporate data-based approaches to hold products and businesses accountable for results against goals and objectives 
  • Effectively communicate and educate business leaders by leveraging data analysis, insights, testing and measurement 
  • Influence business leaders, peers and technology partners to mature data foundations, analytics capabilities and mathematical applications that drive the business

About You: 

  • Four-year degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or other related quantitative field 
  • 7+ years of experience working with Business Intelligence, Data Science solutions - including analysis, design, testing and report development 
  • Strong analytical skills including model development, hypothesis design and testing, and the ability to teach analytical concepts to others 
  • Demonstrated understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts
  • Good understanding of data structures and the design of algorithms
  • Experience in data warehousing (relational/non-relation structures) and data visualization tools  
  • Extensive experience working in the Product model and ability to lead an Agile team 
  • Experience leading projects involving complex analytics requirements, a variety of business stakeholders, and a team of analytics and product professionals with a variety of skills 
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skillset - able to engage and negotiate with business leaders and teams 
  • Demonstrated experience developing and mentoring future leaders in a data rich environment  

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
