Tomorrow

Director of Business Development, North American Defense

Washington, District of Columbia, United States Full Time

We are looking for a Director of Business Development to drive the growth of Tomorrow.io’s weather intelligence technology with North American Defense agencies. The successful candidate will devise appropriate strategies to identify, qualify and ensure federal technology contract wins through strategic, tactical, and hands-on ownership of all aspects of new government business acquisition, capture management and proposal development.

What you’ll do:

  • Drive Defense Growth: Identify, qualify, and capture a robust pipeline of new business opportunities across the U.S. Department of Defense and Canadian defense sectors, directly supporting Tomorrow.io’s strategic growth objectives.
  • Shape Mission Impact: Clearly articulate and present the Tomorrow.io value proposition to defense stakeholders, demonstrating how advanced weather intelligence enhances mission performance and resilience.
  • Lead Full-Cycle Capture: Own opportunities from identification through close, managing pursuits across multi-year R&D, SaaS, and DaaS contracts to deliver meaningful, scalable solutions for government customers.
  • Cultivate Strategic Relationships: Build and maintain trusted, senior-level relationships across defense agencies, labs, and industry partners to advance Tomorrow.io’s position within the national security ecosystem.
  • Develop Impactful Partnerships: Identify and engage with strategic teaming partners, building integrated Prime and Sub teams to strengthen win probability and deliver mission-aligned solutions.
  • Understand the Competitive Landscape: Research and analyze the competitive and programmatic environment at both the agency and program level to inform pursuit strategy and differentiation.
  • Influence Policy and Budget: Partner closely with the Government Relations team to support policies, funding priorities, and budget lines that align with Tomorrow.io’s defense objectives.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams—including product, engineering, and strategy—to qualify opportunities, shape solutions, and develop compelling RFI/RFP responses.
  • Engage in the Field: Travel approximately 25% of the time to meet with customers, partners, and stakeholders across the defense and intelligence community.

What you Bring:

  • Drive and Resilience: A builder’s mindset with the hunger to create new opportunities and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You’re motivated by the challenge of leading a fundamental change in how defense and intelligence customers leverage weather intelligence to achieve operational advantage.
  • Strategic and Analytical Thinking: Exceptional analytical, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to manage your business end-to-end — from market strategy and pipeline generation to customer engagement and solution delivery.
  • DoD Experience:
    • Experience selling Software as a Service (SaaS) and/or Satellite data products via Data as a Service (DaaS) offerings
    • Track record of developing and growing relationships across the U.S. Department of War.
    • 5+ years of experience building a qualified government deal pipeline and successfully transitioning opportunities to capture and close.
    • Proven success closing complex deals with total contract values of $2M+.
    • Understanding of how the Federal acquisition, contracting, and budgeting processes work.
  • Security Clearance: TS/SCI clearance
  • Relationship Builder: Demonstrated ability to build trust, credibility, and long-term relationships across Federal agencies, industry teammates, and ecosystem partners.
