Summary of Functions:
The Director of Accounting provides strategic and financial accounting leadership for Continental Dairy Facilities, LLC (CDF), Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest, LLC (CDFSW), and Select Butter & Packaging, LLC (SBP), working closely with Select Milk Producer’s senior management team to monitor performance and drive improvement across all milk processing operations. This role oversees all plant accounting functions, including reporting, compliance, and internal controls. The role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and integrity in financial reporting while maintaining strong alignment with cooperative and corporate objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
Lead all financial accounting across assigned companies, including monthly close, reporting, and analysis.
Assist FP&A personnel with budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections; analyze variances and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain timely and accurate financial statements and performance reports for management and key stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and cooperative policies.
Coordinate audits and annual tax filings with external accounting firms.
Operational & Strategic Support
Partner with operations to monitor KPIs such as yields, losses, working capital, and process efficiencies.
Evaluate business performance and identify cost-saving or process-improvement opportunities.
Support capital investment analysis and contract review to safeguard company interests.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures to strengthen financial controls and streamline accounting processes.
Accounting Oversight
Supervise plant controllers and accounting staff.
Oversee invoicing, collections, payables, payroll, and expense management.
Manage treasury functions, including cash investments and banking relationships.
Coordinate periodic fixed asset inventories and ensure accurate capitalization and depreciation.
Approve inter-company allocations and shared service charges.
Compliance & Administration
Ensure accurate and timely payment of all taxes (property, payroll, sales/use, etc.).
Maintain adherence to internal control standards and cooperative policies.
Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and accuracy in all accounting functions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Direct Supervisory Responsibilities:
Plant Controllers at CDF (Coopersville, MI) and CDFSW (Littlefield, TX)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High ethical standards and strong professional integrity.
Deep understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and internal controls.
Proven leadership in managing accounting teams and multi-entity financial operations.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SAP Business ByDesign and HRIS preferred.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA designation required.
Minimum of 4 years managing accountants and financial close processes.
At least 3 years in a controller or higher-level finance role preferred.
Prior experience in a national accounting firm with financial audit experience preferred.
Experience in standard and dairy cost accounting is highly desirable.
