Job Description:

Airbus Commercial  is looking for an Director, HR Business Partner & Corporate Functions Lead to join our Human Resources team in Herndon, Virginia.

The Director, HR Business Partner & Corporate Functions Lead is a strategic role responsible for aligning people and organizational strategy with the business goals of the region’s corporate/enabling functions (e.g., Finance, Legal, IT, Security, Government Relations, etc.) This role serves as the primary Strategic HR Business Partner (HRBP) to the leaders of these functions and is responsible for managing, mentoring, and developing a team of HRBPs who support these critical groups across the US and Canada. The Director is a key driver of organizational health, talent development, and change management within these corporate function.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities: 

Lead  HRBP Team: 40% 

  • Lead a team of approx. 3 HRBPs and 1 HR Coordinator to deliver HR objectives.

  • Foster change leadership within the HR organization.

  • Provide guidance to HRBPs on the deployment of consistent and effective HR consulting practices.

  • Provides continuous coaching and feedback to the HR team in support of individual and team development.

  • Manage escalation and eliminate blockers to the delivery of HR objectives in support of the overall strategy. 

  • Responsible for managing and delegating operational HR projects within the team and in collaboration across HR.

Act as a strategic HRBP:     35%

  • Responsible for the successful execution of HR strategy and objectives in support of business needs and Functional objectives.

  • Advocate and champion better workplace initiatives within the business function. 

  • Lead staffing and on-boarding initiatives for the defined organization on time and within budget.

  • Work with the finance and leadership team to ensure accurate workforce plans are defined and delivered. Take ultimate accountability for headcount management.

  • Anticipate and influence HR related needs by maintaining a comprehensive understanding of business objectives, strategies, challenges.

  • Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies, practices and procedures to create and maintain a people first culture. 

  • Provide optimal balance of support and advocacy to business and employees.

  • Identify potential risk areas/future issues and deescalates conflict whenever possible.

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant legal matters protecting the interests of the business and employees.

Delivering high quality, customer-focused service: 20%

  • Champion and demonstrate a high level of personal integrity and ethics in alignment with the company values and leadership model. 

  • Lead meaningful career coaching, including following through with professional development goals

  • Advise and support on internal mobility opportunities.

  • Apply consequential management guidelines when appropriate.

  • Actively engage and listen to employees, responding appropriately and in a timely manner projects, planning and programs.

  • Anticipate potential resistance to change taking the work culture and business  environment into consideration.

  • Lead innovation and creative problem solving to champion change management initiatives.

  • Facilitate training in order to effectively communicate new processes and procedures.

  • Participates in cross functional and divisional initiatives within the HR community to ensure communications and collaboration on projects, planning and programs. Lead Regional level projects that benefit the entire HR & WP Function.

  • Understand, drive, promote and monitor the implementation of HR policies and related processes in line with the strategy.

  • Simplify the complex process and procedures to reduce administrative actions; maximizing the use of Employee Services and the efficient use of our Centers of Expertise.

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Other duties as assigned:  5%   

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or combination of education and appropriate work experience required. 

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • 15 years of progressive HR experience as an HRBP or leading a support function required.

  • Experience working in a multi-functional international environment required.

  • Experience in Aerospace preferred.

  • PHR, SPHR or SHRM certifications preferred

  •  Ability to travel 25% Domestic and International

Physical Requirements: 

  •  Onsite a minimum of 60%  
  • Vision: Daily able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. 
  • Hearing: Daily  able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking:  Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation: Daily use of personal computer, telephone, copier, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors. 
  • Carrying:  Daily able to carry documents, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. 
  • Lifting: Daily  able to lift documents, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. 
  • Pushing / Pulling:  Daily able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. 
  • Sitting:  Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Occasionally  able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel:  Occasionally able to travel independently and at short notice. 
  • Walking:  Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. 
  • Personal Protective Equipment required:  Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.
