The Director, Finance - R&D Oncology, serves as a strategic financial partner to multiple Oncology R&D Line leads within R&D Pfizer. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive financial support for indirect budgets across all Oncology R&D lines, as well as for Oncology Medical Projects. The position delivers financial, operational, and strategic leadership to the relevant leadership teams, operating within a complex and dynamic environment to optimize budget allocation and maximize portfolio value.

The successful candidate will thrive in a matrixed organization, collaborating with diverse stakeholders across finance and R&D groups. Leveraging a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical business, the Director, Finance - R&D Finance, will rigorously review and partner with Oncology R&D to offer financial advice and guidance on key business decisions, ensure delivery of financial commitments, and facilitate optimal capital deployment.

Additionally, this role is charged with establishing standardized and simplified financial processes for Medical Projects, partnering closely with the other TA Medical Finance leads.  Upon establishment, this role and their team will provide budgeting, forecasting, and reporting support as needed to the TA Medical Finance leads for Oncology, Inflammation & Immunology, Internal Medicine, and Vaccines, who are accountable to their respective Medical business partners.  The Director, Finance - Oncology R&D, reports directly to the Vice President, Finance – R&D Oncology.

What You Will Achieve

As Director, Finance - Oncology R&D, you will provide strategic financial leadership and operational support to Oncology R&D line leads within Pfizer’s Research and Development organization. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising teams and actively engaging in investment decisions by leveraging a deep understanding of research and development strategies and cost drivers.
  • Developing accurate and timely financial forecasts, conducting detailed analyses, and proactively identifying and communicating issues. Leading discussions on opportunities and risks, and collaborating with management to resolve them.
  • Managing a team of finance managers to ensure effective financial oversight and support.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact and Finance lead on designated R&D Oncology leadership teams.
  • Leading engagement and providing advice on a range of strategic and operational matters in support of Oncology R&D’s goals.
  • Partnering closely with line teams to offer business counsel and financial leadership on cost optimization initiatives, balancing strategic investments with cost efficiencies.
  • Leading the annual Operating Plan process for assigned Oncology R&D Line areas to optimize R&D spend and maximize portfolio value within established targets.
  • Creating standardized, simplified processes to enable financial support of the Medical Projects within Oncology, Inflammation & Immunology, Internal Medicine and Vaccines.
  • Providing budgeting, forecasting and reporting support for Medical projects within Oncology, Inflammation & Immunology, Internal Medicine and Vaccines.
  • Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial statements, maintaining compliance with Pfizer policies and procedures, and upholding a strong internal control environment.
  • Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with other R&D Finance Leads to share best practices and drive continuous improvement.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance roles, with a proven track record as a finance business partner.
  • Demonstrated expertise in forecasting and scenario planning for pharmaceutical R&D projects.
  • At least four years of experience as a finance leader and business partner within complex and dynamic organizations.
  • Demonstrates exceptional presentation and communication abilities.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills, with the capacity to deliver clear, concise, and insightful analyses. Exhibits a keen attention to detail and a proven ability to quickly identify problems and structure effective solutions.
  • Effectively plans and prioritizes work across multiple projects, consistently maintaining high standards of quality and meeting or exceeding deadlines.
  • Displays sound business acumen and professionalism, with the ability to interface and build relationships at all levels of management and across diverse functional areas.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills, with the ability to challenge, positively influence, and drive change within both team and matrix environments.

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements):

  • Advanced degree (MBA or CPA).
  • Prior experience in finance roles at Pfizer.
  • Demonstrated breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities, including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes, and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $152,700.00 to $254,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
