Job Description:

Parsons is looking for a Director, External Communications focusing on the company’s Federal Aviation programs to join our Corporate Affairs team.

The Director of External Communications is a strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing Parsons’ comprehensive communications strategy to enhance our Federal Aviation business, brand reputation, engage key audiences, drive business objectives, and mitigate risk. This role oversees external communications and marketing for the company’s Federal Aviation portfolio, including public/media relations, crisis management, and advocacy. This position works cross-functionally with clients, program teams, leadership, marketing, internal communications, HR, IR, GR, and other teams to ensure alignment across all communications touchpoints and will manage a small team of communications support personnel as part of Parsons’ FAA programs in partnership with the program team.
 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Manage a small team of communications support personnel who will are responsible for program communications and public relations tasks, in coordination with the program team and customer.

  • Oversee the marketing events planning and execution in partnership with the stakeholder engagement program personnel.

  • Develop and execute strategic PR initiatives that enhance the Federal Aviation program, in alignment with the customer, to positively educate key audiences on the program’s success and criticality.  

  • Function as a trusted advisor to the customer, internal program leadership, executive leadership, and other functional teams on matters related to external communications, media relations, and crisis response.

  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of communications activities and initiatives and provide insights and recommendations for improvement.

  • Write messages and talking points for senior leadership and spokespeople for external use.

  • Partner with senior leadership to establish crisis protocols, developing proactive planning and response strategies for transparent communication during critical events, and serving as spokesperson when necessary.

  • Lead media preparation and training of spokespeople.

  • Craft impactful narratives for press stories, news, blogs, articles for publication, and newsletters relating to the company and its services to maximize opportunities for positive public relations.

  • Clearly and confidently represent a media relations perspective while working collaboratively with other functions and colleagues at various levels.

  • Provide direction to PR agency partners as appropriate.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • 15+ years of experience in strategic communications, journalism, government public affairs, or public relations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public relations, marketing, or a related field.

  • Experience in Federal Aviation, defense/national security, and/or government.

  • Experience leading agile, fast moving teams.

  • Strong collaboration skills.

  • Ability to shape and lead teams, with at least 8+ years of management experience.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing and mitigating crisis communications efforts, including planning, response, and training.

  • Experience navigating complex organizations, while gaining trust and advising both external clients and internal partners.

  • Ability to comprehend and explain complex capabilities and initiatives to audiences that have various levels of understanding.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Salary Range: $120,800.00 - $217,400.00
