As an Dietitian at VHA, you will be assessing and providing consultation, recommendations and interventions to a diverse group of adult/geriatric and/or pediatric clients in their homes and/or schools using evidence-based best practice. You will ensure coordinated delivery of care through ongoing communication with the client care team regarding plans and schedules for interventions, problem solve in collaboration with the client and care team to create opportunities for more independence and promote VHA’s core beliefs and values.

Among other roles, you will provide advice, mentoring, consultation, and expertise related to the Dietetic profession. You will provide joint visits with other Dietitian and Service Providers to give input for performance reviews. Support Dietitians and Service Providers who face clinically challenging situations. You will provide clinical orientation for new Dietitians and Service Providers or those changing clinical areas, and mentor groups for new graduates or those new to the community setting. You will identify, promote, and participate in best practice initiatives reflective of the requirements of the evolving health care system. You will also meet regularly with the Supervisor, Rehab Best Practice. You will act as a resource in the implementation and interpretation of discipline-specific professional standards of practice, contribute to the development of standards of practice, clinical policies, and procedures relevant to the profession.


 

Key Areas of Accountability

VHA's Dietitians have the following key areas of accountability, but not limited to:

  • Prepares client reports for health professionals to analyze for treatment.

  • Prepares plans and presentations for clients and their caregivers to provide thorough information on their diet as well as their goals.

  • Educates internal and external staff members about healthy eating and proper nutrition.

  • Supports the following areas of intervention: failure to thrive, dysphasia, feeding problems, enteral feeding, diabetes, cancer, GI disorders, weight management, and palliative care.

  • Helps patients coming to terms with their illness and advise about special and time-specific diets.

  • Supports safe client care through the development of knowledge and skills in accordance with our principles of continuous quality improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Member in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.

  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience (optimal)

  • Valid Driver’s License with access to a vehicle

  • Compassionate and empathetic

  • Self-driven with ability to work independently

  • Skilled in caseload management

  • Skilled at electronic documentation

  • Able to provide virtual care
