Job Description

We are looking for an experienced DfX (Design for Excellence) Project Engineer Lead to drive the successful execution of DfX initiatives across our product development processes. The DfX Project Engineer Lead will collaborate with cross-functional teams, lead DfX assessments, and ensure the integration of DfX principles—such as Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design for Assembly (DfA), Design for Resiliency (DfR), and Design for Sustainability (DfS) to optimize product designs for quality, cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, and sustainability.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, project management, and a deep understanding of DfX methodologies. You will play a key role in influencing design decisions, driving continuous improvement, and leading teams to deliver innovative and optimized solutions. You will work hybrid from Milwaukee, WI and report to the Sr. Manager, Industrial Design UX.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee NPI DfX initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and product development timelines.
  • Collaborate with product design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to integrate DfX principles into the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct DfX assessments and design reviews to identify potential risks and improvement opportunities related to manufacturability, assembly, cost, sustainability, and quality.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to project teams on DfX best practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Develop and maintain DfX guidelines, standards, and documentation to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes by analyzing product designs for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and ease of assembly.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts to address design issues impacting manufacturing, quality, or cost.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to prioritize DfX activities and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Track and report on DfX project performance, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence across engineering teams.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • The ability to travel 15% of the time.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • 8+ years of experience in product design, manufacturing, or engineering with a focus on DfX methodologies
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing DfX-driven projects from concept through production
  • Strong knowledge of DfM, DfA, DfR, DfS, and other DfX principles.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction processes.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., CREO) and PLM systems
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
