Data Governance Manager, Unstructured Data

Join Manulife as a pivotal contributor in shaping our data governance strategy for unstructured data. As a leader on our Data Governance team, you will focus on adapting our existing data management frameworks to achieve AI ready data. This role is crucial in driving our strategic shift towards operationalizing governance for unstructured data—an essential component in the era of AI and digital transformation. You will apply advanced analytics, and AI expertise to develop and operationalize governance frameworks that align with responsible AI practices at Manulife.   

 

How we Work 

Our Global Data Governance Team operates at the intersection of data science, AI, and governance innovation. We collaborate globally across Data Governance, IT, and business teams, translating strategic needs into actionable, data-driven solutions. You will help establish best practices, guidelines, and create advanced solutions that elevate our governance capabilities and support responsible AI adoption. 

 

Position Responsibilities:   

 

  • Shape AI Ready Data: Design and implement governance frameworks for unstructured data (images, transcripts, voice, documents, emails, etc.) that support AI and machine learning use cases, ensuring adherence to responsible AI and data management principles as well as compliance to existing and emerging regulation.   
  • Collaborate and Transform: Work closely with AI Model Validation and data science teams to gather requirements and translate them into governance solutions and automation strategies that support data related requirements of responsible AI adoption. 
  • Innovate and Automate: Enhance governance processes and technologies using data science and AI to support data management for unstructured data, including metadata management, data quality, and lineage tracing. 
  • Drive Change: Lead training sessions and initiatives to foster adoption of new frameworks, tools, and capabilities, enabling teams to integrate data governance into AI delivery lifecycle. 
  • Manage Risk: Identify and mitigate risks associated with unstructured data storage, access, and usage, leveraging data science techniques to safeguard data assets and ensure ethical AI practices. 
  • Champion Quality: Advocate for approaches that enhance the quality and discoverability of unstructured data assets, particularly in AI development contexts. 
  • Lead through Insight: Provide insights on emerging trends and best practices in unstructured data governance and AI readiness. 

 

Required Qualifications:  

 

  • Formal training or certification in AI, machine learning, or data governance (e.g., CDMP, DAMA, or equivalent) is highly desirable Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

 

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in data science, AI, and data governance. 
  • Experience working in a global enterprise setting in financial services or other regulated industries. 
  • Familiarity with the regulatory frameworks and industry practices on data privacy and responsible use of AI.

    Salary range is expected to be between

    $94,220.00 CAD - $174,980.00 CAD
