Job Summary:
The Data Architect – Enterprise Data Platform provides data strategy, design, development, performance, refinement and governance oversight of Wawa’s Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), including Enterprise Data Warehouse and Information Marts. The role is critically important to ensuring that Wawa’s information architecture solutions that are aligned with the objectives and standards of the enterprise data management strategy and enable optimal performance, stability, and extensibility.
The Data Architect EDP is responsible for analyzing and translating business, application, information, data, reporting, and analytical requirements into an architectural blueprint that outlines solutions to achieve business objectives.
Principal Duties:
- Provide subject matter expertise on Data Architecture. Understand platform and integration capabilities to advocate/discuss these with business and technology stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of the Enterprise Reference Architecture and the Information Architecture.
- Communicate, educate and ensure adherence to sound data management principles and where possible, the re-use of data as well creating and managing meta-data and business rules for the use of data.
- Establish guiding principles and a reusable methodology for managing information architecture deliverables.
- Analyze business processes, operational applications and source data to understand dependencies, anomalies and implicit business rules that impact the ability to manage the master data.
- Create the high-level architecture and data solution design for projects (conceptual model, integration model, sourcing) in alignment with the portfolio and enterprise data strategy.
- Translate enterprise or business needs into long-term information architecture solutions.
- Apply enterprise vision to all portfolio, technical and application projects understanding and communicating different architectural models/strategies that are consistent with business strategies.
- Design, develop and maintain logical and physical data models.
- Perform data profiling and analysis and develop data models that correspond to the business and technical requirements. Review and sign-off on all project data models.
- Work with project managers and across the architecture organization to develop the approach and cost estimates to produce information architecture deliverables for projects.
- Assess and facilitate engagement of other data management services (DBA and data integration) for the projects within the portfolio.
- Provide high level tracking of project progress, with respect to data architecture deliverables, to ensure timely delivery and efficient use and staffing of data architecture resources.
- Design databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
- Develop and maintain a formal description of the data and data structures including the data models, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries and technical metadata.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers on data model, its maintenance and optimization as well as end-to-end data driven integration strategy.
- Participate in developing the future state data architecture standards, guidelines, and principles.
- Define vision, strategy and principles for data management.
- Define standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modelling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, searching and delivering all data within the enterprise. Builds high quality data pipelines driving analytic solutions.
- Develop Proof-of-Concept projects to validate new architectures and solutions.
- Work with Product Owner/Business Analysts to understand functional requirements and interact with other cross-functional teams to architect, design, develop, test, and release features.
- Create and publish architecture strategies, statements of direction, standards, and guidelines.
- Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements.
- Partner with various internal and external teams to drive implementation and testing.
- Gain alignment on critical issues with stakeholders.
- Apply test and learn mindset to define requirements and manage product backlog.
- Work with agile development teams to plan iteration, clarify stories and review test cases.
- Test and accept product features.

Basic Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, MIS or Marketing preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in data architecture, data warehousing and data lake platforms
- Applied experience and expertise in data architecture concepts (e.g. model management, meta-data management, data governance)
- Experience delivering concurrent, large information management projects at all phases-from project definition through design and delivery
- Demonstrated proficiency in requirements gathering and analysis processes and methodologies
- Experience developing a data strategy and working within and influencing the associated policies.
- Understanding of cloud (AWS, GCP) computing and architecture
- Understanding of Big Data and related data management technologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of Agile process, principles and product development process as an Agile Product Owner
- Experience with Domain Driven Design and Service Oriented Architecture preferred.
- Experience working with Data Models include working with an Enterprise Canonical Data Model preferred. Experience with Data Vault methodology preferred.
- Experience working with Snowflake and Databricks
- Experience working with Data Integration tools, Data Flow Design and source to target mapping required
