Controls Engineer

What you will do

This position is for a Controls Engineer for battery manufacturing processes. The desired candidate has the ability to provide technical leadership, work autonomously, and provide support to manufacturing operations and maintenance functions by troubleshooting and making design improvements to a wide variety of manufacturing equipment. 

 

How you will do it

  • Program, optimize, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems to ensure stable equipment operation and consistent product quality.

  • Provide real-time technical support to manufacturing and maintenance teams to resolve downtime events and equipment performance issues.

  • Perform structured root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and prevent recurrence.

  • Modify, update, and maintain electrical and control system drawings (AutoCAD) to reflect as-built conditions in accordance with standard engineering practices.

  • Lead verification of electrical and functional safety systems in support of equipment launches, process changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure equipment control logic meets environmental, quality, and safety compliance requirements specific to battery manufacturing operations (e.g., lead handling, ventilation, interlocks).

  • Maintain accurate backup and version control for PLC, HMI, drive, and automation system software.

 

What we look for 

Required: 

  • B.S. in electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechatronics engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. 

  • Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming/troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley). 

  • Experience with drive systems (Allen-Bradley Power Flex), including parameter configuration and tuning.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a plant manufacturing environment. 

Preferred: 

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).

  • Experience with process data collection, historian systems, and OEE/downtime tracking.

  • Knowledge of battery grid/plate forming processes, curing operations, and material handling systems.
