Consumer Member, Lived & Living Experience Authority

VIC, Fairfield Part time

Wellways is committed to reconciliation, lived experience and inclusivity. This designated lived experience role is open to consumers living in NSW or Queensland. In addition, First Nations people and others with intersectional perspectives are encouraged to apply. We welcome people with a lived experience of substance use, homelessness or incarceration, culturally and racially marginalised communities, the LGBTIQ+ community, and people who live in rural and remote areas to apply.

The Wellways Lived & Living Experience Authority operates alongside the Board to provide a lived experience governance voice. The Authority partners with challenges and holds the Board to account. The Authority partners with the Board to ensure that governance decisions reflect lived & living experience perspectives.

The role of the Lived and Living Experience Authority

  • Support and enable the Wellways’ Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to hold themselves accountable consistently and transparently to participants of all our programs and to the communities served by the organisation.
  • Foster a respectful relationship with the Board, appreciating their corporate governance role and accountability.
  • Influence the Board and CEO by proactively and responsively sharing lived expertise and making recommendations on specific issues.
  • Work with the Board and CEO to address the challenges of transformation and elevating lived experience.
  • Connect, in a governance capacity via the CEO, with Wellways’ operational lived & living experience advisory groups, ensuring the experiences of people and communities who engage with Wellways inform the Authority’s work.
  • Develop capability and pathways into lived experience governance roles within Wellways and connect to relevant lived experience governance networks.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a personal lived and living experience of mental distress. In your application, please demonstrate your lived expertise in these areas:

  • Putting lived experience at the centre of thinking and decision-making
  • Championing justice in governance
  • Mobilising strategically
  • Standing up and speaking out
  • Nurturing connected and collective spaces
  • Leading change
     

What we expect of the Authority members:

  • Members are available for online meetings at least once a month, and from time to time (approximately 3 times per year) in-person meetings or other events, including for extended learning and strategic planning 
  • Members prepare for meetings, including by reading papers, and follow up on any action agreements coming out of meetings.
  • The expected time commitment per month is up to two days.
     

We may consider the overall composition of the Lived & Living Experience Authority as part of the selection process to ensure that membership reflects the diversity of the populations whom Wellways serves.

  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check – we will not exclude applicants for non-relevant history, and we assure your privacy.
  • 100 points of ID, NDIS Workers Screening check, NDIS Module (free training module), Working with children check, LCS2 check (provided via Wellways) and Queensland Blue Card.
