Job Description

As the Community Service Coordinator for the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources at Prairie View A&M University, this position will be pivotal in enhancing our organization's interface with key constituents, including city and state government offices, alumni, foundations, and media. This position will focus on developing strategic partnerships and coordinating outreach and promotional activities to enhance our relevance, visibility, and impact on the community for land grant programs.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the College's public and media spokesperson, field media inquiries, and obtain coverage through various media outlets.

  • Develop promotional materials and campaigns to highlight the College's achievements across multiple communication channels.

  • Implement comprehensive outreach plans to enhance the College's image, engage target audiences, and support faculty-led projects.

  • Build relationships with local communities and stakeholders, serving as a liaison with businesses, institutions, and government entities.

  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Three years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all groups.

  • Proven track record of developing and managing community programs and events.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

  • Experience working with governmental bodies and educational institutions.

  • Strong writing and public speaking skills.

  • Proficiency in the use of social media and digital communication tools.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community relations, outreach, or a similar role.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of seven years of experience.
