About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

We're seeking a Beneficial Deployments Communications Lead to drive communications for Anthropic's social impact initiatives across owned, earned, and social channels. In this role, you'll develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies that showcase how Claude advances education, healthcare access, financial inclusion, and economic mobility—building trust, credibility, and meaningful connections with educators, nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, and mission-driven organizations.

This is a high-impact role where you'll craft narratives about Claude's beneficial applications that resonate with social impact audiences while building meaningful relationships across education, nonprofit, and public benefit ecosystems. You'll work closely with the Beneficial Deployments team to support impact objectives, while establishing Anthropic as a trusted partner for organizations working to solve society's most pressing challenges.

You'll be responsible for positioning Anthropic as the leading AI partner for beneficial deployments across education, nonprofit healthcare, economic mobility programs, and other mission-driven sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive comprehensive impact storytelling programs that showcase how Claude transforms learning outcomes, expands access to services, and advances equity across beneficial deployment sectors
  • Create sector-specific narratives that translate Claude's technical capabilities into meaningful social impact outcomes for education, healthcare access, financial inclusion, and economic mobility
  • Build and maintain relationships with education media, nonprofit publications, social impact journalists, and mission-driven content creators
  • Build and maintain "new media" relationships across emerging channels including education-focused YouTubers, nonprofit podcasts, and social impact content creators
  • Develop sector-specific messaging for K-12 education, higher education, community health, financial inclusion initiatives, and workforce development programs
  • Lead communications for beneficial deployment launches and partnerships with mission-driven organizations
  • Build a spokesperson bench that brings authenticity and credibility to education, nonprofit, and social impact communities
  • Establish thought leadership presence at major education conferences, social impact summits, and nonprofit convenings
  • Help manage communications for philanthropic partnerships and mission-aligned collaborations
  • Coach subject matter experts on communicating about AI ethics, equity, and responsible deployment practices

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have 10+ years in mission-driven communications with demonstrated success at education organizations, nonprofits, foundations, or social impact technology companies with proven track record building communications programs across education and social impact sectors
  • Have extensive experience working with mission-driven partnerships, education leaders, or nonprofit organizations
  • Show expertise building thought leadership programs for educators, social innovators, and mission-driven leaders
  • Possess truly stellar written and verbal communication skills that make complex technical concepts accessible to diverse, often non-technical audiences
  • Can fluently translate AI capabilities into meaningful social impact while addressing concerns about equity, privacy, bias, and the human element in education and social services
  • Have "new media" and influencer strategy experience identifying and building relationships with education content creators, nonprofit influencers, and social impact tastemakers
  • Bring sector expertise in areas such as K-12 or higher education, edtech, nonprofit healthcare, financial inclusion, workforce development, or community-based organizations
  • Display strong operational capabilities and can move from strategy to execution seamlessly
  • Show excellent judgment in navigating sensitive topics around AI ethics, equity, access, and responsible deployment
  • Are self-driven with a bias to action and genuine passion for social impact
  • Bring an open and curious mindset to deeply understand AI's potential to advance equity while thoughtfully addressing risks and concerns in mission-critical contexts

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.  Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
