This position aims to advance the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) capabilities across the University of Miami Health System to the ambulatory care clinics and multi-specialty facilities of the health system. The goals include to improve clinical outcomes by optimizing antimicrobial use, enhance resource utilization while decreasing therapeutic resistance and adverse events, and to bridge transitions of care between acute and ambulatory settings.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Takes responsibility for establishing and expanding clinical services to the ambulatory clinics and facilities, as well as implementing and supporting the organization's ASP goals and initiatives
Assists the Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) team in the appropriate dosing, indication and administration of antimicrobial therapies
Participates in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) ambulatory ASP initiatives to enhance quality of healthcare services provided
Provides pharmacy consultation services for providers caring for patients in ambulatory settings across the health system
Advocates for optimal antimicrobial use to improve clinical outcomes, prevent drug resistance, and enhance safety
Promotes the safe and appropriate use of vaccines
Develops medication and vaccine protocols, order sets, and facilitates medication and vaccine utilization reviews and PI projects
Provides mentorship and is a clinical resource for staff, pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and other healthcare providers in area of expertise
Tracks key performance indicators for quantifying the success of stewardship interventions across ambulatory facilities
Tracks and reports antimicrobial usage and cost metrics to clinical systems, clinical program leaders, and other stakeholders in the ambulatory setting
Participates in ambulatory and system-level antimicrobial stewardship research initiatives
Prepares and delivers antimicrobial stewardship-related presentations to stakeholders and learners
Conducts case reviews of adverse events associated with antimicrobial use and reviews cases of poor outcomes due to antimicrobial mismanagement

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution (education verified)
License to practice pharmacy in the state of Florida
Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or 3 years of relevant clinical experience, particularly in the ambulatory care setting
Preferred Qualifications
Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (BCIDP)
Previous experience working in an integrated healthcare delivery system
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Effective communication and management skills
Proficient in interpreting and utilizing data for decision-making
Skilled in teaching, guiding, and mentoring professionals
Strong project and program management experience
Experienced in antimicrobial stewardship, medication policy, medication safety, and formulary management within the ambulatory care setting
