What this job involves:

Responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining central utility plant equipment and systems that provide heating, cooling, and other utility services to commercial buildings or facilities.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Monitor, operate, and adjust equipment including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and auxiliary systems

  • Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on plant equipment

  • Analyze equipment performance data and make adjustments to optimize efficiency

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs as needed

  • Maintain accurate logs of operations, maintenance activities, and equipment readings

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards

  • Respond to emergency situations and equipment failures promptly

  • Coordinate with maintenance teams on scheduled repairs and replacements

  • Manage chemical treatment programs for water systems

  • Monitor energy consumption and implement conservation measures

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred

  • 2-5 years of experience in utility plant operations or facilities maintenance

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment

  • Valid certifications relevant to boiler operation, refrigeration, or building systems

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment specifications

  • Proficiency in using building automation systems and computerized maintenance software

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform physical tasks

  • May require shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Capable of climbing ladders and working at heights

  • Able to work in confined spaces when necessary

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
