The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Line Pipe Category, the Category Specialist will support new and ongoing procurement across all North American business units with annual, enterprise-wide spend of approximately $500 Million USD, predominantly for line pipe of outside diameter 30” and greater.

The Category Specialist will support value generating initiatives such as Category Strategy Development, participate in supplier performance evaluations and reviews, analyze and validate market intelligence, generate demand and capacity reporting, and provide multiple purchase scenarios and analyses where required. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to manage unique problems, which require critical, independent, and holistic thinking. The Category Specialist will manage complex Master Pipe Purchase Agreements, mitigating risk through commercial negotiations and interacting with internal stakeholders ensuring Company goals are met. The Category Specialist will work closely with the Line Pipe Category Manager to ensure alignment and consistency across decisions and robust implementation of these initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development and formation of large scale supply agreements that drive business value and mitigate risk to TC Energy

  • Generate and provide sourcing recommendations based on detailed analyses, business needs and market intelligence

  • Responsible for maturing supplier performance improvement process and strategic supplier relationship management

  • Provide insight and direction into International trade issues such as safeguards, anti-dumping and countervailing duties

  • Provide assistance in facilitating technical negotiations

  • Lead commercial negotiations

  • Provide Class 4 and 3 level estimates, to be presented to leaders, incorporating multiple data sources and estimating techniques

  • Support development of Category execution strategies

  • Prepare and lead proposal presentations to the Business Unit leaders

  • Maintain contract records ensuring Governance requirements

  • Develop, issue and manage RFx documents

  • Contract and Order Management, Change Order negotiations and approval

  • Cost flow reporting and analysis

  • Identify and articulates cost savings opportunities based on spend, market, and business analysis

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution

  • Minimum 6 years of progressive industry related experience

  • Experience preparing presentations and leading meetings with Company Leadership

  • Strong abilities in Excel, Powerpoint and other MS Office products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large diameter line pipe manufacturing, coating, and delivery

  • 10 years of progressive industry related experience

  • Strong planning, project management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task under high pressure situations with competing priorities and a sense of urgency

  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; able to distill concepts and make them compelling; gains buy-in from executive-level stakeholders

  • Designation or enrollment in a Supply Chain Management program such as ISM, SCMP, CSCMP, or IACCM

  • Experience with relevant systems and tools, such as SAP and Ariba

  • Fluency in Spanish, business level
