The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Business Manager in Fiscal Operations.
The Business Manager serves as a strategic and operational resource for the department, actively supporting financial and administrative functions in a dynamic research environment. This role is responsible for processing and approving purchasing, personnel forms, travel vouchers, and departmental expenditures. The Business Manager also plays a key role in grant and contract budget preparation, financial forecasting, and compliance with sponsor regulations. As a resource ally to faculty and staff, the position ensures accurate financial reporting, supports grant closeouts, and maintains effective communication with funding agencies to uphold institutional standards and maximize research funding.
Major Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in financial management, preferably in a research or academic setting.
Demonstrated experience with budget planning, grant administration, and financial reporting.
Strong understanding of federal and private grant regulations, including compliance and closeout procedures.
Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g., Excel, ERP systems, grant management software).
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external funding agencies.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a research or academic setting.
Strong knowledge of federal grant regulations (e.g., NIH, NSF, DOE) and experience with grant budgeting and compliance.
Proficiency in financial systems and tools; experience with Workday is strongly preferred.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with experience advising faculty or research staff.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The approved hiring range for the position is $60,000 - $75,000. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.
