The role of the Business Architect is central in ensuring that BMO Insurance’s strategic objectives are achieved through well-designed organizational structures, processes, and systems. Reporting to the Head, Digital Enablement, the Business Architect will facilitate outcome-based road mapping and planning and serve as an integral part of complex business transformation projects and activities by enabling the business to scale and adapt to changing market conditions. The Business Architect will lead efforts to create business architectures that support long-term growth, scalability, and sustainability and will be responsible for connecting business strategy to enabling technology capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Business Architecture Design:

  • Lead the development and implementation of business architecture strategies that align with the organization’s objectives, vision, and transformation initiatives.
  • Define and design business models, processes, and capabilities that optimize business operations and drive value.
  • Develop a clear business architecture framework that integrates strategy, processes, information, technology, and people.

Governance and Process Optimization:

  • Establish governance structures for business architecture initiatives, ensuring proper alignment, accountability, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to standardize and streamline business processes, ensuring they are efficient and scalable.
  • Monitor and evaluate existing business processes and systems, recommending changes for process improvements and cost efficiencies.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with BMO Insurance’ key stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into business architecture requirements.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to business leaders, providing insights and recommendations on organizational design, technology systems, and process improvements.
  • Foster collaboration across departments at BMO Insurance to ensure that business architecture initiatives align with all functional areas of the organization.

Capability Modeling and Roadmap Development:

  • Develop and maintain a capability model that maps out critical business functions and the competencies required to deliver business value.
  • Create and manage a roadmap for business architecture, prioritizing initiatives that provide the highest impact to business goals.
  • Ensure that business architecture initiatives support agility, scalability, and innovation to address both current and future needs of the business.

Technology and Systems Alignment:

  • Work with IT and other departments to ensure that business architecture is aligned with technology strategies, including systems, data architecture, and infrastructure.
  • Lead the design of technology-enabled business processes and ensure that systems architecture supports business agility and operational efficiency.

Change Management & Organizational Transformation:

  • Partner with the change management team to ensure business architecture changes are successfully implemented, embraced by employees, and aligned with the company’s culture.
  • Ensure that business architecture changes minimize disruption while supporting long-term business goals.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (required).
  • Business architecture certification (e.g., TOGAF, BIZBOK) is preferred.

Experience:

  • 8- 10 years of experience in business architecture, business transformation, or strategic planning.
  • Proven experience in the insurance industry with a strong understanding of insurance products, processes, and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and designing business architectures that support organizational strategy.
  • Experience working in large, complex organizations with exposure to digital transformation, process improvement, and systems integration.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of business architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, BIZBOK, Zachman Framework).
  • Expertise in business process modeling, enterprise architecture, capability modeling, and business systems alignment.
  •  Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex business challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Deep understanding of organizational design, change management, and process optimization.

  • Full-time position, based in the office 3 times a week.

Salary:

$94,600.00 - $176,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
