We are seeking someone to conduct research on the application of bio-catalysis, aiming at implementing them in the synthesis of APIs and other fine chemicals.

You will provide support to research projects that generate new products, processes and understanding of commercial value to JM whilst building fundamental understanding of the science involved.

You will work with guidance to a generally defined project plan; evidence of working independently within area of expertise typically with a daily/weekly focus.

As the Biocatalysis Researcher, you will help drive our goals by:

  • You will discover, characterise and evaluate novel enzymes for organic synthesis

  • To clone and express recombinant DNA using advanced molecular biology techniques.

  • Utilize various expression systems (e.g E.coli, yeast) to achieve high titers of functional proteins.

  • Characterize enzymes using standard biochemical assays (e.g., activity assays, protein quantification)

  • Provide support to projects for customers, internal R&D biocatalytic projects and bio-catalysis development

  • To conduct work requiring independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, processes and criteria relating to the development and application of biocatalysis

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

  • BSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or equivalent experience

  • Perform routine protein expression in E.coli or yeast cells for use in biocatalytic applications

  • Experience in cloning, expression of protein

  • Desirable assay method development and validation using chromatographic equipment such as HPLC/UPLC/GC and UV/Vis spectrophotometer.

  • Good aseptic culture technique.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with varied audiences effectively.

  • Be self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention.

  • Graduates considered with relevant under grad experience

  • Lab based role 5 days a week onsite.
