Benchmarking Analyst: Downstream, Midstream, Chemicals

to join the Engine's Innovation team; this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

The DMC Benchmarking Analyst will support Chevron’s ENGINE group by compiling, validating, and analyzing benchmarking data across the downstream, midstream, and chemicals businesses, to enable business decisions, including competitive goals setting. This role will focus on collecting financial & operational benchmarking data to support the setting of competitive and realistic targets. The analyst will collaborate closely with business leads, global stakeholders, and subject matter experts to deliver high- quality benchmarking reports and insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and validate peer and third-party data from multiple sources, ensuring completeness and accuracy and translating into actionable insights

  • Map peer data into standardized categories and enter data into benchmarking databases

  • Perform quality checks on actuals and business plan data, including de-biasing, analyzing variances, comparing multiple data sources, and following up with relevant stakeholders as required

  • Ensure right data preparation and transformation to enable delivery of structured statistics

  • Compile benchmarks and calculate preliminary pathways for key metrics

  • Understand operational and financial impacts of key metrics—including operating earnings after tax (OEAT), gross margin, utilization, operating expenses, volume, realized price

  • Convert key metrics into targets and quantify gaps to those targets

  • Generate preliminary insights from benchmarking data and identify improvement opportunities

  • Support the development of competitiveness reports focused on downstream, midstream and chemicals activities and metrics

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve data gaps and validate insights

  • Publish final reports into repositories and support iterative updates as needed

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related field

  • 5-10 years of industry experience as a service provider, within a refinery, or through full-service consulting in the downstream, midstream, and/or chemicals sector

  • Proficiency in data analysis, benchmarking, or business performance measurement

  • Advanced fluency in financial analysis, with experience in product economics and financial modelling

  • Experience working with public company data (e.g., SEC reports) to develop insights

  • Familiarity with third-party data sources such as S&P Global, Opis, Solomon, or equivalent providers

  • Proven ability to partner with diverse stakeholders to deliver results

  • Proficiency in data management, quality control, and variance analysis

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large data sets into actionable insights

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across global teams
