The Atlanta Braves communications department promotes and publicizes the organization’s business, marketing, community and philanthropic initiatives, as well as its players, coaches and baseball operations officials. The Baseball Communications Trainee will develop new skills and gain valuable insight into the day-to-day workings of a sports communications office. They will gain hands-on experience writing statistical and promotional materials, serving as an on-site PR assistant for home games and related media events, and performing other job-related responsibilities.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Write and compile sections of the daily game notes for all spring training, regular season and postseason games, and serve as the primary author of postgame notes for all home games.
  • Responsible for daily staffing of our press box, including the printing and distribution of game notes, lineups, stat packs and assorted gameday materials.
  • Assist in the creation, printing and distribution of daily media credentials and parking passes, and communicate all approvals, denials and pick-up info to visiting media.
  • Help author our annual media guide for release prior to the season, and fact check and proofread sections across the department.
  • Write and edit various stories for our game day publications and season yearbooks.
  • Assist with the day-to-day functions of the department.

TRAINEE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  • College graduate, Bachelor's or Master's, with a GPA of at least 3.0 at graduation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and relate well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and within all levels of the company
  • Customer service oriented
  • Excellent executive presence
  • Must complete a background check

ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred candidates will have previous experience in a similar position with an MLB club
  • Excellent writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office; writing samples may be required
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe InDesign software is preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work long hours, overtime, weekends and occasional holidays
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and emerging outlets is preferred
