Bank Hospital Porter/ Driver

We are currently looking for a Bank Porter / Driver at our Ashtead Hospital based in Ashtead, Surrey.

The Bank Hospital Porter will provide a general portering services for all hospital departments but specifically including operating theatres, stores, security patrols across weekends or bank holidays and potentially some delivery driving between other local Ramsay Hospitals.

Principal duties are to provide porter cover across the hospital from 7.00am to 20.00 pm Monday to Friday and 06.00 am to 12.00 pm on Saturdays. Some flexibility is required at other times as well to meet variations in the needs of the business.

Key duties:

  • Be responsible to the Hotel Services Manager for agreeing work patterns

  • To work in close liaison with the Operating theatres Manager and Head of the decontamination unit  to ensure that relevant patient care and departmental priorities are met..

  • Work harmoniously with the other members of the portering and other teams ensuring that all responsibilities are covered.

  • Work closely with all departments, ensuring the safe movement of goods and equipment throughout the hospital.

  • Transporting patients as required around the hospital utilising appropriate lifting and handling techniques.

  • Dealing with the post on a daily basis.

  • Setting up the Conference Room for various meetings, events, and training.

  • Maintain the hospital car park and gardens, ensuring they are well presented, clean and tidy and ensure the waste storage area is clean, organised and well managed. Reporting any concerns to management.

  • To maintain the waste compound, ensuring bins are correctly compacted.

  • Ordering & ensuring safe movement of medical gas cylinders and to assist with deliveries from suppliers and cylinder changes.

  • Ensure that equipment used to move patients are properly prepared & maintained.

  • Taking Specimens to pathology when required and ensuring any required paperwork for this is completed.

  • Scanning the theatre store locations and replenishing the stock on a daily basis.

  • Providing cover for the driving of out 3.5ton Van which transports Instrument to and from our local sister hospitals in Reading and Caterham as required.

  • Removal of clinical & general waste & sharp bins from all departments of the hospital as required throughout the working day.

  • Undertake the clearance and correct disposal of medical and general waste from the back of theatres during the operating period.

  • Ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Regulations; ensuring that incidents and accidents are reported.

  • Collecting dirty linen from the designated locations to the outside container.
