About the position

Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Backend Developer: Benchmarking, Target Setting & Performance to join the ENGINE Innovation team; this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

The Benchmarking, Target Setting & Performance Backend Developer will support Chevron’s ENGINE by designing, building, and maintaining databases that store benchmarking, target setting, and performance data. This includes mapping business workflows to data, to build databases that capture actuals, initiatives, and insights to enable competitiveness assessments and performance improvement. The role ensures data integrity, security, and accessibility while enabling connections with both internal and external data sources. The Backend Developer/Specialist will collaborate with analysts, business leads, and technology teams to deliver a robust data infrastructure that supports enterprise-wide benchmarking and performance insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain databases that store benchmarking, target setting, performance, actuals, and initiative data

  • Develop and maintain data connections to internal and external sources, ensuring reliable and secure integrations

  • Develop data system architecture to enable automation of data pipelines, including transformation of data structures and API integrations

  • Implement and monitor data governance practices, including quality control, security, and access management

  • Work with analysts and business teams to structure data in a way that supports benchmarking, target setting, and performance insights

  • Optimize database performance and scalability to accommodate evolving business needs

  • Map and optimize workflows to ensure efficient data reporting practices and reliability

  • Conduct regular maintenance, updates, and audits to ensure accuracy and reliability of stored data

  • Collaborate with IT and data engineering teams to align database solutions with enterprise standards

  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on data access, tools, and reporting interfaces"

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field

  • 5–10 years of experience in database development, data engineering, or systems integration

  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational and non-relational database platforms

  • Demonstrated experience in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL), including building and maintaining data pipelines and API integrations

  • Knowledge of database platforms and ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, AWS, Google Cloud, Planning Space

  • Familiarity with applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to enhance data integration, quality checks, and performance insights

  • Strong understanding of data governance, quality assurance, and security best practices

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills"
