POSITION SUMMARY
The AVP, Underwriter markets, analyses, underwrites, models and services (re)insurance products, to help our company to achieve corporate profitability and growth goals.
You will assist in writing a book of specialty insurance portfolios via our various London and UK balance sheets.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist the lead underwriters in executing the specialty underwriting strategy for 1458, RREAG UK/Zurich and the wider global portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to optimize the specialty portfolio and cultivate relationships with existing and prospective business partners.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of data for (but not limited to) the following:
- Reinsurance submission
- SBF submission
- PRA stress testing
- RDS (both Lloyds and internal)
- Aggregation monitoring
- Accumulations Monitoring
- Assist lead underwriters in on-site auditing of clients.
- Responsible for accurate representation of deals in REMS.
- Assist with credit monitoring on existing deals.
- Responsible for first cut of SSE type documents.
- Triage of new deals.
- Provide input into European strategy setting.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- A College or university degree is required, with 3-4 years’ experience of specialty reinsurance through broking, underwriting, claims, actuarial or other related classes.
- An understanding of portfolio management. Experience with portfolio management and some experience of outwards RI.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and identifies alternative solutions.
- Well-developed knowledge of general insurance business, including primary and reinsurance underwriting, and claims, accounting, actuarial, and information practices and principles
- Knowledge catastrophe models and an ability to critically evaluate complex model results and deconstruct the vendor models.
- The ability to work with complex risk systems.
- Excellent mathematical and statistical skills along with data management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Act courageously. Make unpopular decisions in the best interests of the company.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders (clients, brokers, vendors).
- Receptive to new ideas.
- Demonstrate social, relationship building and negotiation skills.

- Travel required.
