The Opportunity

Summary:

USAA is seeking an AVP level executive to lead Strategic Initiatives and Enablement.  The successful candidate will lead and elevate Risk’s engagement across USAA’s portfolio of strategic initiatives and the top priorities at USAA. Serves as the primary point of contact for Risk to ensure the function is embedded early and substantially in strategic efforts, as well as in cross-functional programs led by the lines of business or functional units.

Responsible for driving Risk’s participation and influence across the full lifecycle of strategic work, from ideation, build, assessment, execution and post-implementation evaluation. Ensures Risk considerations are proactively addressed, governance is upheld, and the function is positioned as a strategic enabler, not just a control partner.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, Plano, Phoenix or Charlotte.

What you will do:

  • Coordinates large key initiatives and serves as an integration point to support complex CoSA or Enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Partners with USAA Project Management Office (PMO) and senior leaders across the Association to coordinate, influence, and embed Risk policies into strategic planning and execution efforts to render effective risk challenge on business decisions.
  • Ensures Risk has a proactive and consistent role in Association-wide initiatives, from early conceptualization through implementation, to supervise the application and efficiency of risk management practices.
  • Responsible for coordinating cross-functional teams to drive alignment, resolve issues, and accelerate delivery while assessing the risk impact of initiatives to business objectives.
  • Serves as the Risk department executive liaison across the business, technology, and PMO teams to ensure visibility, accountability, and impact to risk protocols.
  • Orchestrates the development of comprehensive and actionable strategic plans, translating high-level Risk organizational objectives into well-defined initiatives with measurable milestones, key performance indicators (KPIs), and clearly articulated outcomes to drive organizational success.
  • Serves as the primary representative for Risk in executive forums, providing expert insights, constructive challenges, and thought leadership to advise strategic decision-making and ensure a robust risk-aware culture throughout the organization.
  • Champions the adoption and integration of effective change management and risk governance practices across organizational initiatives, ensuring consistent application and minimizing disruption, aligned to continuous improvement and USAAs risk appetite.
  • Stays abreast of new laws and regulations to assess business impact and provide guidance and recommendations aligned to the Association’s risk appetite.
  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities. 
  • Identify, monitor, analyze and report on Change management progress and risks.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years of dynamically responsible professional experience in program management leadership, process improvement, IT, engineering, consulting for large strategic efforts, or operations within the financial services industry. 
  • 6+ years of people leadership experience in building, managing, and/or developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong understanding and experience with strategic change management.
  • Recent experience translating complex business strategy and vision into an executable business process and technology plan and successfully delivering component.
  • Extensive Experience leading across sophisticated organizational lines in a matrix structure.
  • Experience delivering member or customer facing capabilities in a sophisticated multi-channel, multi-product, integrated system environment.
  • Extensive experience communicating information and establishing relationships with other executive management and Board of Director stakeholders.
  • Experience operating in a highly regulated environment, preferably in financial services.
  • Excellent understanding and application of project management principles.
  • Expert knowledge of risk frameworks including risk governance, risk appetite, process, risk and control analysis, control efficiency measurement, and risk management coverage plan (monitoring, assessment and testing).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels within an organization.
  • Proven capability to communicate effectively across all Lines of Defense and build collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of balancing run-the-business and change-the-business priorities.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and regulatory expectations.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple high impact/high stake efforts concurrently.

What we offer: The compensation range for this position is: $169,880 – $305,780.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
