This is a tenure-track assistant professor of art (9-month appointment; with specialization in digital media) position. Primary duties will include teaching undergraduate art courses in Digital Media and developing curriculum in digital illustration, animation, 3D modeling, time-based media, and interdisciplinary practices. As a tenure-track faculty member, the successful candidate will maintain an active record of scholarly and creative work, mentor students, and foster a positive learning environment. A reduced load (2-2 for the first 2 years) is provided to new hires to allow them to focus on conducting creative work and research. Duties also include service to the Visual Arts Program including attending faculty meetings, mentoring students, assisting with management of the TAMIU Art Gallery, and conducting community engagement activities. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest and most comprehensive college at the university. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts features vibrant programs in art and music, along with dynamic and expanding programs in dance and theatre.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a 1) an earned MFA degree in digital art prior to the start of the 2025-2026 academic year and 2) a portfolio of student work that demonstrates proficiency in teaching digital art creation methods and the elements and principles of design. We strongly encourage candidates with 1) college-level teaching experience in digital media or related fields; 2) Professional experience maintaining a studio practice in digital media or hybrid practice, including any of the following: animation, 3d modeling, time-based media, and/or digital drawing; 3) An interest in teaching a special topics course in digital art or a hybrid traditional and/or conceptual course; 4) Experience working collaboratively and across disciplines; 5) experience in external granting writing or securing external grants; and 6) evidence of active participation in service-related initiatives within a university or the community.
