Job Summary
The Assistant Director, EMS is directly responsible for the objectives and responsibilities of UMC EMS operations assigned by the Director

Reports to: Director, EMS

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Ensures continued readiness and compliance of UMC EMS with CMS CoPs, DNV, DSHS, DEA, and other city, county, state, and contractual standards as determined by inspection and/or reporting requirements of UMC EMS by these entities.
• Perform operational and capital budgetary functions as assigned by the EMS Director, ensuring the judicious and prudent use of UMC EMS resources, while developing and executing appropriate action plans based upon this fiscal planning.
• Directs staff by example and demeanor, in support of UMC’s vision.
• Provides or facilitates training, coaching and evaluation of all assigned personnel to ensure the personal and professional growth of each team member.
• Monitors established processes and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness of all UMC EMS activities.
• Ensure effective representation of UMC Emergency Medical Services among regional EMS providers through active participation in the South Plains EMS and the B-RAC, attending 80% of SPEMS and B-RAC meetings and serving on at least one committee.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management Services or related field
• Graduate of Ambulance Service Manager program or Communications Service Manager program within 1 year of hire
• +5 years of experience as a manager, preferably Director, managing a medium size (annual response volume of 30,000), high performance EMS system

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-B, AEMT, EMT-Paramedic or Licensed Paramedic certification
• BLS: Basic Life Skills or BLS Instructor’s certification by The American Heart Association
• ACLS or ACLS Instructor’s certification by The American Heart Association
• PALS or PALS Instructor’s certification by The American Heart Association
• Class C driver license with no DWI convictions in the prior 10 years

Skills and Abilities
• Must have a demonstrated success of supervising staff and operations with successful outcomes
• Must be able to establish departmental priorities and objectives as directed by the EMS Director to evaluate individual performance and system progress/performance
• Must have the ability to perform budgetary and financial analysis of projects, equipment, special events, and departmental processes and procedures using both Excel and Word
• Possess a high degree of knowledge and skill in pre-hospital patient care and EMS systems management

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position will interact with patients, their family members, health care providers, members of public safety and law enforcement personnel, students, volunteers, and fellow employees

Physical Capabilities
Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move patients or objects. Frequently work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling. Occasionally work involves running, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling.

Environmental/Working Conditions
Emergency Medical Services provides offices and crew quarters which are well lighted and ventilated. This position is subject to adverse weather and working conditions. The Assistant Director is occasionally exposed to blood, and other infectious agents. Occasionally work involves the Assistant Director to be outdoors, in confined spaces, heights, underground, wet, and dry environments, with a wide range of temperatures, unusual lighting and noisy environments.
