Assistant Club Coach, Dance Team

Job Description Summary

The Dance Team Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the development of individual and team talent, overseeing dance instruction, and supervising activities related to weekly rehearsals and performances as scheduled. This also includes being responsible for ensuring the team receives choreography/instruction for any new routines. In addition, the Assistant Coach should promote the Dance Team on campus, especially at athletic events, while encouraging the members to publicize the team in new and creative ways to expand membership. The Assistant Coach is required to help schedule and be present during all practices and game day performances, ensuring that all safety standards as defined by Bentley University are met in full.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate weekly rehearsals

  • Communicate regularly with Head Coach, membership, and team leadership to ensure success of the team

  • Provide for choreography needs of the team, either through direct choreography or by coordinating and obtaining outside choreography, in conjunction with the Head Coach. 

  • Attend all game day performances (Home Football Games, Home Men & Women's Basketball Games, etc.)

  • Support the recruitment and publicity efforts of the team

Other Duties

  • Manage the student participants by reinforcing commitment to academic standards while participating in an extracurricular team

  • Ensures the balance between needs of the team and time away from campus for practices and competitions

  • Overall, support the coaching and advising of the Dance Team (30-40) in conjunction with the Head Coach. Specifically, coach and advise the Game Day Dance Team (15-20 students)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Bachelor's Degree Preferred.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in coaching/instructing dance at a level comparable with a university club sport program

  • Previous experience working with a higher education undergraduate population or adolescent/young adult individuals, as in a school, camp, or related setting

  • Experience coaching dance and supporting the skill development of individuals and teams

  • Experience with and knowledge of instruction and choreography

  • First Aid and CPR training is required.

Work Environment

  • Dance Team Assistant Coach should be present at all practices and performances of Dance Team

  • Position must be able to navigate and negotiate high energy situations (like competitions) while maintaining calm, organized and collected for appropriate professional responses

  • Travel for practices and competitions is required. This may include weekend performances and travel to out-of-town performances. The Dance Team performs at most Bentley Basketball home games and sometimes at off campus events 

  • Should the Dance Team decide to attend a camp or Nationals, this will also be a requirement of attendance of the assistant coach

  • The Assistant Coach works collaboratively with the Head Coach and e-board members

Physical Demands

  • The coach should be able to perform dance instruction/choreography. Should be in good physical condition with ability to perform as instructor.

This position has a fixed hourly rate of $17.00, paid for hours worked during the designated seasonal schedule.
