Purpose of Role: The position is responsible for the Electrical (Light and Heavy current), mechanical repair and maintenance of all machinery and equipment on the Weir Isando site under the supervision of a qualified artisan, while gaining practical skills and knowledge required to become a competent Millwright. This includes but is not limited to Foundry, Machine shop and Rubber plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production & Maintenance: Attend and complete all theoretical and practical training modules as part of the apprenticeship; assist artisans with repairs, fault finding, and daily machine inspections; learn and apply basic PLC programming and automation to improve machinery and production efficiency.
  • Drawings & Design: Understand and interpret engineering machine drawings for maintenance tasks; compile and draw relevant sketches or designs as needed.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Work collaboratively with artisans, foremen, planners, and production staff; be open to giving and receiving regular feedback and value diverse perspectives.
  • Continuous Learning: Gain hands-on experience in industrial automation and apply sound knowledge to enhance plant operations and production lines.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.


Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science passed.
  • Experience in production or maintenance environment will be advantageous.
  • Higher qualification (N5/N6 in Engineering) will be advantageous.
