Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number T5829500 and is part of the CO 140 OSS, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • The primary purpose of this position is: To meet, guide, debrief air crew, secure, service, fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Serves as crew chief of transient aircraft, responsible for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing maintenance on the aircraft when needed, and responsible for the total airworthiness of the transient F-16 aircraft. Meets and guides aircraft across active runways to designated parking area, directs aircraft into parking position, secures aircraft by chocking wheels, attaching ground wires, and installing lock pins and engine covers. Accomplishes larger and more complex operations such as jacking aircraft and crash recovery methods and procedures. Operates heavy load refueling vehicles, for dispensing of aviation fuels and defueling aircraft. Sets up and operates a large variety of powered and non powered aerospace ground equipment (AGE), such as auxiliary power units, deicers, runway sweepers, runway truck, air start units, nitro carts, and auxiliary heating and cooling units. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspections checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Maintains records and documents actions, such as records of fuel dispensed, operator inspection checklists/forms, and accident/incident reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience working with difficult and complex servicing operations involved in servicing components and systems such as hydraulic accumulators, landing gear struts, and oxygen and pneumatic systems on a variety of aircraft. 2. Experience or knowledge of specific servicing requirements for each component and type of system according to the aircraft to be serviced (e.g., specialized hose adapters for pneumatic systems on certain aircraft, type of fuel, and refill of critical pressures); pre-servicing procedures on oxygen and pneumatic servicing carts (e.g., building up transfer pressure in liquid oxygen trailers and setting manifold control and regulator valves); and the effect of ambient temperatures on oxygen and pneumatic servicing procedures. 3. Experience working with a variety of aerospace ground equipment (AGE) such as auxiliary power units, deicers, air start units, nitro carts, and auxiliary heating and cooling units. 4. Experience working with aircraft refueling procedures and regulations including knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations regarding transportation of flammable liquids and emergency shutdown procedures. Payments: 10% bi-weekly payments of the annual rate of basic pay as of the beginning of the service period (includes locality pay/special rate supplement) multiplied by number of years (and fractions) covered by the service agreement.
