Job Summary: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains large systems for air conditioning functions.

Major Duties:

  • Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electrical control systems for heating, air conditioning, and refrigerant equipment.
  • Interpret sketches, diagrams, blueprints, electrical schematics, formulas, and programming for a building automation operation system.
  • Plan, design, install, troubleshoot, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and exhaust systems.
  • Perform mechanical repairs to items, such as pumps, compressors, and chillers.
  • Calibrate transmitters, thermostats, and other pneumatic electric controls.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (Electrical) without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including performing the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of the refrigeration and air conditioning trade; and installing, troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and Refrigeration equipment and controls. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently carry and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. Make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places. Work requires working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling for long periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Worker is exposed to injury from moving objects, sharp edge and falling from high places. There is a hazard of electrical shock. Occasionally must work in explosive production areas where there is a danger of fires and explosions; and occasionally is exposed to toxic fumes in production areas and phosgene gas. Face masks and protective clothing may be occasionally worn when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants. Works outdoors in all types of weather conditions, indoors, on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces and in cramped areas with low overheads under uncomfortable conditions, such as: temperature extremes, dust, noise, vibrations, grease, poor illumination, poor ventilation, unpleasant odors and dampness.
