The Opportunity
We are seeking an AI Governance Lead to join our AI Enablement & Data team. This role is your opportunity to shape the guardrails for ethical, compliant, and trustworthy AI in a regulated industry where public trust and operational excellence matter most.
What you'll do
Evolve and operationalize TC Energy’s AI governance framework aligned with our values and regulatory requirements across Canada, U.S., and Mexico
Design and implement technical AI standards (model registration, documentation, monitoring, risk sign-offs) that balance rigor with practicality
Act as a control advisor throughout the AI solution delivery lifecycle—from intake to deployment, monitoring & sustainment
Lead AI risk assessments and partner with digital asset owners to define mitigation strategies and decision records
Collaborate across business functions—to ensure AI solutions meet Responsible AI (RAI) standards
Educate executives and stakeholders by translating complex topics (bias, explainability, model risk) into clear business impacts
Define and report governance KPIs/metrics (coverage, compliance, risk SLAs)
Embed operational best practices for AI/ML (monitoring, version control, validation, documentation) to ensure reliability and accountability
Stay ahead of evolving regulations and apply frameworks like ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, and Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA) AIDA, plus GDPR/EU AI Act
Support the Implementation of data governance best practices—data quality checks, metadata management, lineage, and stewardship—to ensure trust and compliance
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Data Science, AI/ML, Computer Science, Law, Ethics, Risk, or related field
5+ years in AI/ML, data governance, compliance, or risk management
Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and lifecycle implications
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, and Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA) AIDA, plus GDPR/EU AI Act
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including executive-level briefings
Experience with governance tools and documentation practices (Model Cards, Datasheets for Datasets)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in energy or other regulated industries
Knowledge of ESG and sustainability reporting as it relates to AI
Certifications in AI ethics, governance, or privacy (CIPP/CIPM, Responsible AI credentials)
AIGP certification
Technical stack experience: AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Purview/Fabric for data governance and compliance
